Need easy way to track mileage

I need an easy way to track mileage (for expense reporting) through my Axim. I've looked at lots of software to do that, but it sure feels like killing a mosquito with a cannon -- I don't need all that stuff.

Can you use VBA or an Outlook custom form with Axim's calendar? Surely there is a simple way to add mileage information to an appointment on my calendar without loading a whole new program.

Any suggestions for a simple way to track mileage use on the Axim?

Just set up a calendar template in Pocket Excel and have columns for starting and ending mileage.

As Shane suggested, just use an Excel spreadsheet. That's what I'm using.

The excel spreadsheet does sound like the best idea. I used a few different ones while keeping track of expenses on last vacation. Worked well.

I find that easy access to my daily-use files is a big help, and being able to put a document shortcut on the Today screen makes it work. One tap opens the file.
I use Battery Pack to do this, but you get generic icons.

Thanks for the advice. A TODAY shortcut to an excel macro is the way to go, I guess. I was just hoping for something else ... an easy way to add a mileage piece to the calendar appointments.

I had read somewhere that programming in VBA would allow you to keep defaults in the registry and wondered about doing that with the calendar program.

But that's over my head. Excel is more my speed.

Thanks!

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but if you go into the Options for Pocket Excel and choose the template for the new spreadsheet, there's a "Vehicle Mileage Log" in there. I just found it. I'm playing with it right now...

I did a 'milegage journal' on Handago and got these results.

May be worth a look to you. Actually One of the reasons I purchased my Axiim was for that exact reason and I still have yet to put one on there. I guess I will be playing tonight and demo'ing a few apps from above.

I guess I need to quit playing on my Axe and get to work finally, hahahaha

hypnotoad, could you please expand on the "Options" in pocket excel. I am using it now and there is only a file, edit, view, format, and tools. None of these menuse has an "Options" button. How did you exactly get the mileage template, or any template for that matter? Thanks in advance.

nosborn:

Don't open a new spreadsheet. Simply run Excel from your Programs and it gives you a listing of the Excel files on your device. Click "Tools" and "Options" here and you'll see what I'm talking about.

This thread has been helpful.
I still can't understand, however,
what is the advantage to a dedicated mileage program?
The only thing I can see is that it keeps your odometer setting.
Is there an Exel macro that would do that by storing the odometer settings in the registry?
