Mad Spanish Version

Hi all

This is my 1st post here, so be gentle :)

I have just purchased an axim from Dell [UK], I am one of many who have had a Spanish version. They told me that they would be sending me a disk which I could change the language of the OS [ which would flash the ROM ]

Can this be done? I know there may be a problem of answering this, due to rules of this forum, but I would appreciate an answer - maybe by e-mail?

Thanks

Nick

To be honest, I have no idea if it can be done. You could always call Dell and ask if it is possible. Although, I am not sure how much that will help you. :)

It's because all or a majority of the UK DEll Outlet Axims shipped this week have Spanish firmware and software installed by mistake.

Guy on ebay has obviously palmed it off to someone un-suspecting.

Dell quote that they are sending an upgrade CD that will change the Axim to English - but some other people have been quoted that this is impossible.

Any ideas ?

Are Dell always this bad ?

Except it doesn't work. Smeg's solution for changing regional settings only changes the way dates and numbers are displayed, not changing the language itself.

True I tried this last night and it doesn't change the "core" language.

Presumably as space is to a premium on PDAs the OSs are lanugage specific.

Sorry it doesn't work. Like I said in the other thread, I have never actually tried it, so I didn't know what would happen. I am going to make an assumption that you have 2003 on it, right? If so, I have no other ideas.

No problems SMEG - it was worth a try - so thanks.

A quickie- don't want to install the Spanish software on my PC - is there any way I can put MP3s onto a compact flash card in a way thant the Axim will recongise it without having to use Activesync ?

I copied the MP3s onto the C. Flash card using my card reader - but even when put in a directory called Music the Axim can't sem to find it - does it have to be done via Activesync ?Or am I just selecting the wrong option in Media plyer ?

Thanks for any help - Mediaplayer is actually OK in Spanish !

Try putting it into a My Documents folder. If that doesn't work, try finding out what My Documents is is Spanish.

Thanks Moderator - but I worked out what I was doing wrong ! I hadn't inserted the Compact Flash in far enough - now all working- videos and all -excellent.

Just one thing - sometimes when I take out the compact flash card the Axim turns on and says Compact Flash card removed or something (its in Spanish) is that normal ?

Yes, the Axim turns on when memory cards are removed, or inserted.

Nope, it can't be downloaded. It has to be purchased on CD from Dell. Sorry.

I've been provided the official PPC2003 upgrade from Dell (English) to apparently allow my Axim to change to English - and guess what - the installer comes up with "cannot upgrade - incorrect language" Do Dell know what they are doing ? In one phonecall they told me both that a new Axim is arriving for me in January (when I don't know) and that the upgrade CD they sent me should work ? So why send the new Axim then ? I'm getting rather annoyed by Dell now - I tried the I request a next day replacement for a working unit from them - like their service/warranty allows for - and they came back with- sorry we don't have any in stock so can't do that !

Is there anyway to circumvent the "language" checker. I was checking the setup.ini file etc - and I'm wondering if I ran one of the other executables on the CD that it would bypass the language check ?

I'm really surprised at this from Dell - I'm seriously considering calling my Credit Card and stating that I haven't received the goods I've ordered and take it from there .. Bit grey I suppose - but could I argue that the Spanish Axim I received is Unsolicited goods - as its definately not what I ordered (order quotes PPC2003 UK) ?

Any tips ?

Thanks for any help,

Mark.

My first post too!

Bought an X5 from Dell Outlet store (UK) - they delivered an Italian one. Have been given the runaround described above.

Was promised a NEW X5 yesterday delivered in 5 working days. Today got a phone call saying there will be no new X5's for 3 to 4 months and there are no refurb ones they can send!

Have spent sooo long on the phone to them I think the time has come to give up and take their offer of a refund.

My opinion of Dell could not be any lower however this is a great site and has been very helpful in the past couple of weeks.

I hope the above sorry tales have happier endings than mine.
