Should I buy the CF or the SD expansion card?

I just ordered my X5 400 MHz last night and want to buy and expansion card for it. All I read tells me that if I got a secure digital card that would be best because it would leave my compact flash slot open for something else if ever wanted in the future but it looks like 256 MB is the biggest SD card made and they are more expensive anyway. Should I “settle” for the CF card and the more storage space it has or “settle” for the SD which would give me greater expansion capabilities (by leaving the CF slot open) but have less storage space?

I'd go for an SD card for the exact reasons you said yourself. I haven't received my Axim yet either but from the advice I've received from this board the SD is the way to go (for memory). In fact, I ordered a 256 SD card today!

Good luck.

Agreed, if I had to pick one, I'd take the SD. I have a CF card for when I travel on the plane. I just load up all my MP3s on it. When I'm home, it just sits and the WiFi card goes in...

Agreed, I use CF for mp3's on the road and for wi-fi at home and SD for storage of progs and such. The real reason for me though is size. 3 or 4 SDs' are easy to carry and the same number of CFs' aren't. Shop around for SD though, I have found them pretty darn close in price to CF's. Amazon has some good prices once in a while.

i agree the SD memory is the way to go in my book. You have so many more options when your files are on the SD and the CF is open for wireless or some thing else. Does anyone know if you can run programs for the SD???? I never tried it.

Thx

If I never see myself using a wireless connection I may just do the CF option. I agree that the SD option is ideal but the SD is just costs so much more than the CF option of the same size.

If you go to Amazon tonite (2-14) and go to sandisk memory you will find a 256 meg CDF card for 69.99 a SD card of the same size is 79.99. I got a 256 meg cruzer from sandisk @Circuit city For 89.99. I like the cruzer thingy I got so for me it was worth the 20.00 for immediate satisfaction. At Amazon if you are willing to wait for 5 days shipping is free. HTH:D

I had a CF 128 and then got a modem and had to constantly remove the CF so I picked up a SD 256 for $55 (SanDisk) after rebates which was only slightly more than my CF and had double the size. So, I think you should get SD. They are smaller and don't cost much more and in some cases less expensive.

Just get both and that way your flexable.

Yeah, the 256 SD is not that much more than the CF but the 512 SD is a lot more than the 512 CF. I would rather get the SD but as soon as I consider the 256 SD I see the 512 CF for just a little but more. The only thing I see keeping the CF slot open for is for wireless and I do not see myself doing that ever.

I have a wireless network at home, but like pconyers, I don't see myself getting a WiFi card for the Ax. But -- I have a modem card, will probably get a GPS card, could conceivably get a card to drive external display/projector. There are so many uses for the CF. Who knows what's next.

Still, $50 isn't the end of the world. Maybe it would be good to have two memory cards?

Has anybody else noticed that the Ax is a very expensive device? It's like Dell could give it away if they could get us to buy all the anciliary stuff from them.
