Question

Regarding downgrading to ActiveSync 3.6....are there any applications that require 3.71?

I have this same random disconnection when syncing at home & office. I sync via USB1.1 w/o a hub at home. Sync via IR port w/ networked IBM ThinkPad at the office.

Have a 400 mhz X5, purchased Jan '03. Upgraded to WM2003, ver A05.

Also, I experience disconnects EVERY time I try to transfer MP3/WMA files to the Axim through the MS Media Player 9 "Copy to CD or Device" function.

Exchange 2003 Server ActiveSync is a bit more reliable for me with 3.7.1 over 3.6. I was having the problem (and one of my co-workers is) with 3.7.0, so I haven't even bothered downgrading to that. I don't know anything that requires 3.7, though.

ActiveSync 3.7.1 fixed it

After fiddling with 3.7 a bunch more and removing Windows Media Player to try to rule it out, I finally installed 3.7.1 over 3.7.

Now it's working fine... We'll see if it lasts.

I take that all back. Right after I posted this it stopped working again. Still searching for the fix :(

I have an X5 that came preloaded with 2002, it is still on rom version A02 via a USB 1.1 connection.

I have Activesync v 3.6 installed and I have this exact problem.

I have to remove the X5 from the cradle and reinsert it for the connection to be re-established.

Doesn't look like this is s WM2003 only problem. I'd be inclined to blame Activesync?

I ordered a USB 2.0 PCI card recently and it should be arriving soon, I'll report it it makes any difference once I have it installed in my host PC.

Axim 5 with 2003 already installed. The PC is a work PC connected with LAN/WAN.

I changed the settings in the options section of Active Sync; for a while, that worked. As soon as I trusted it to stay active - blink. Usually, the Axim is connected to the PC to use MSN Messenger or AOL. (My son is in Iraq and the State of Connecticut will not allow me to use AOL or MSN to chat with him when he is online, so I use the Axim to do that.)

So far today, the Axim has stayed connected. Some days it stays connected, some days it doesn't. The laptop I have at home is even more capricious. Sometimes it acts as though Active Sync weren't even installed. (Win XP user account administrator).

It's frustrating.

Hmm

Hi everyone

I'm experiencing similar problems with my X5 disconnecting. The strange thing is, this has only started happening at work and not at home.

I basically got my X5 for Christmas, with Win2003 pre-installed, with ActiveSync 3.7.1. Now, the disconnecting only started when I brought my cradle into work and starting connecting the X5 up here. The differences between the two systems are that my home PC is running XP Professional edition, whilst the machine at work is running Win2000 Pro...

However, I had a think about it and realised that also I had to download ActiveSync from Microsoft because I'd left my Dell CD at home... I'll check the build revision tonight.

So the specifics of my X5 are:

Axim X5
Xscale 400
ROM Version A05
Pocket PC version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100)

I've now had my Axim connected for two hours continuous...

Cheers!

I've installed the USB driver now and mine seems to be working okay. It used to "time out" after about 10-15 minutes. But now it seems to be hanging in there. I'll keep watching it to see if I can recreate anyone's bugs, but so far so good.

I think it's fixed

Right now it is working again. I was connecting my cradle to the port replicator for my IBM T40 Thinkpad.

I am now connecting the cradle directly to a USB port on the laptop itself and it has been working reliably for a few days now. I am no longer getting the messages that the x3 "couldn't connect".

Completely removing Windows Media Player 9 did not seem to make a difference.

I am running an Xr with all the bells and whistles and the moment I upgraded to ppc2003 from the dell upgrade cd my activesync has been frustrating to say the least. My activesync does not stay connected, in fact it doesn't connect hardly at all. On rare occasions it will connect and maybe stay connected for a couple minutes which just happens to be long enough to sync it but in the 3 weeks I have had 2003 that may have happened 4 times.

most of the time I put my axim in the cradle in get the activsync bell and it opens on my desktop only to have it end up saying not connected. I am on a network but I use it stand alone on my desktop. Activsync 3.71, usb 1.1

as a note, the upgrade cd from dell said that in order for me to upgrade I HAD to have activsync 3.7+ and that anything else would not work.

Cripes, this problem still hasn't been worked out yet? I think it's time I went back to a Clie' or similar style PDA.

I can't Sync appointments, contacts or anything in my office.

I also have a similar problem. My activesync will start to sync and then it will disconnect after 10 seconds or so. I can however connect under a guest partnership. Hopefully someone will figure this out soon. I've tried to get help from Dell tech support, but haven't been able to accomplish anything thus far.

Stats of my Axim X5
Xscale 300MHz
32 MB RAM
32 MB ROM
ROM A02
Pocket PC 2002
ActiveSync 3.7.1
Outloook 2000

I am also running Windows 98 SE on my desktop computer. I've tried using different USB ports (hub and directly connected to computer) and I've installed ActiveSync 3.5 and tried, but the same problem still occurs. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.
