Question New Computer...what do I do to Sync ?

I've had my Axim for several months and have been syncing it to my old clunker of a computer (Pentium II, Windows '98). I just bought a new computer (Pentium 4, Windows XP and I'm not sure how I make to transition from ActivSyncing with my old machine to my new one. I don't want to lose anything (contacts, files, events, etc...) Can anyone tell me what the protocol is for making the transition, and if there are any dangers to look out for? Do I want to temporarily maintain the connection to my old computer, or make the new one my only connection?

Thanks... Pescador

Of course, install ActiveSync on your new machine. Assuming you are using Outlook for syncing your contacts, etc., put Outlook on your new machine and sync the info from your Ax to it. Presto, you will have all your data on your new machine. After you have everything all set up, I would use only your new machine for syncing from that point on.

I would recommend that same thing in your position. I would probably look at things a little different if you also sync email. Depending on how much email you have on your old desktop including email attachments, that can take up alot of space on your PPC. If you are using outlook to sync email I would look into exporting your email to a backup file and then importing it on your new desktop.

Mad

I have a similar situation. Switched OS on my PC, from WinME to XP.

Starting with this moment (I don't know what I did wrong) after syncing the Ax with the PC, my PPC works very slow and if I want to access the Calendar it freezes. Nevertheless nothing happens - it works perfectly - if I sync it without the Calendar.

Did somebody, ever experienced this ????????? It's quite frustating (because I love my Ax).

Finally got everything working but my Inbox. MSN is web-based, and does not work with Outlook 2000 (the version that comes with the Axim). Apparently, MSN works with Outlook Express (and supposedly with Outlook 2002, 2003)...just NOT with Outlook 2000. Do I seem a bit frustrated? Anyway, someone recommended a little program called Pocket Hotmail which works with Hotmail/MSN and this took care of my Inbox problems (for $5.00). If someone can write a little program and sell it for $5.00, why can't those MORONS at MSN figure out how to do the same thing? So, I'm back in business. Thanks for the guidance! Did I mention that I HATE MSN...?

On my PPC I use HTTPMail (which is $5.00) to allow me to read my MSN email on my PPC. Since it is a separate account server in Pocket Inbox it doesn't sync with Outlook 2000 (which is what I use). So I use a separate package that I just installed (sorry can't remember the name) so that I can download my MSN mail to Outlook 2000 and it will sync to my PPC. I believe it was a free app that I used. I will post the name as soon as I get home.

Whitelyt...thanks, I'm curious to know what you're using. I also had to set up a separate account server in Pocket Inbox.

Here's the link for the thing I'm using:

Tell me about this HTTPMail (which is $5.00) you are using ?
