Better Graphics??
I might have hinted at this sometime in the past, but now I'd like to truly bring it up: the X3 has "better graphics" than the X5 by more than 500% according to spb benchmarks found on many websites including ( http://www.bargainpda.com/assets/2050.jpg )... What does this mean? I think that the X5, with its 400mhz and speed and overall CPU power, well... I would think the graphics would be better. And what does "graphics" mean? The color quality? Emulation screen updates? Overall frame rate in games/movies? Or is it truly rubbish, and that the X5 is just as good?

Hmm... I would truly be surprised if a movie on an X5 is of less quality than one on an X3, or even an X3 basic for that matter (link points to this)... But if that be the case, is there any way to "improve" the graphics?

And, in that case, HOW COULD a 200MHZ PC be 480% better, graphically, than a 400mhz X5?!

Mind befuddled with strange thoughts,

The X3 basic is 300MHz, the X3i and X3 power are both 400MHz, the same as the X5 advanced...

The X3 uses the PXA263 processor whereas the X5 uses (i believe) the PXA255, the PXA263 has integrated graphics accelleration of some description hence the better graphics performance.

I can't speak for the X5, but on my X3 I can play full 25fps PAL DiVX or xvid video at 240x320 resolution using Pocket MVP with no dropped frames.

indeed
Hmm... I see.

The X3 BASIC is 300mhz, the X5 is 400mhz, and the 1910 is 200mhz... Well, the 200mhz 1910 is scaring me right now, because it seems to have better graphics than the 400mhz X5.
\Heh.

Those benchmarks are not truely correct .. For one the X5 only has Pocket PC 2002 that they compaired .. The benchmarks are a lot better on PocketPC 2003 .. Also if you have a PXA255 with PocketPC 2003 there is even more of an inrease over a plain X5 with only 2002 on it ..

Well, what is PXA255 or whatever? Kinds of processors? Batteries? Heh, I'm stupid... Alas! one can never be sure of his destiny... Well, does PPC2003 significantly speed up graphics? As in frameskip, screen refresh rate in emulation, etc?
Things get more interesting...

PXA is the processor .. Pocket PC2003 is optimised for the PXA255 where as POCKETPC 2002 wasn't as much ..

Depends .. If you have an Axim X3 you have it .. A new Axim X5 you probably have it .. An older Axim X5 you would have to order the upgrade/buy from Dell to go from PocketPC2002 to PocketPC2003 ..

This benchmark was made using a px250 x5 not a px255. PPC2003 aka Windows Mobile 2003 increases speed on a px255, not a px250, which is already supported in ppc2002.

Anyway, the graphical abilities of the px263 are better than the px255, but not that much.

I beg to differ with the "not that much" comment. Although I have done no kind of "scientific" study of the differences, all real-world tests I have done show that the X3i definately outperforms the X5. In both video, games, and emulation testing.....the X3 ran anywhere from 3x to 6x faster than the X5. In my opinion, this graphics speed difference is a lot.

SPB Benchmark can be downloaded at This Link. It is free to download for anyone that is not using it for any benefit, and is also free to any reviewers.
