Active-Sync Problem
Hi all,

I did a Hard Reset the other day and now I can't sync. I deleted all the partnerships and still doesn't work.

I did a Hard reset because I am having the problem with screen taps and have to squeeze the sides of the device to have it work again, only to have it happen again.

Well, back to the problem with Active Sync. I get the message below:
Quote:
Synchronization can not be completed successfully. Disconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the microsoft activesync trouble shooter in microsoft activesync help on your desktop computer.
Well, I went there and it is not much help. I can send files over to the device through explorer, though. Any help anyone?

Also should I update the Rom to A04? I have A00. I hear it is good on battery life and is much faster. But before I do that I want to see if I can get a replacement because of the screen taps.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Try unchecking all the items in the options list on the PC and connecting. If it works with no items selected, add back one at a time. I find after a hard reset the PC/PPC have difficulty transferring the large amount of information necessary on the initial sync and doing just a little at a time sometimes works.

Yes, you should update your ROM if you intend to keep this Axim. I also started with A00 and you will note significant improvement with the newer ROMs. (Even better if you upgrade to WM 2003.)

I can't help much with ActiveSync, except to commiserate about what a horrible program it is.

Sorry, I must not have read through your entire post, but I agree with pswets that you should upgrade to A04 (if you have the 400mhz X5) and you may as well do it before trying to fix the ActiveSync problem. A04 itself won't solve that problem but you may have to solve it again after the update since that is another hard reset. Personally, I don't think it's worth the $30 to go to WM03 but that's a decision for you to make.

Is the upgrade safe? I know i read in different areas, that if something goes wrong, your device will not work anymore. Is it really that easy to upgrade?

Thanks,
Mike

Trouble free for me. There have been some reports from members of problems, though. I just followed the instructions (even screwed them up and had to start over ... gulp), and all was well. Maybe I was just lucky.

Still am having troubles.

But first, let me rewind a few days.

I called Dell for a different problem. Screen taps were not working properly, had to squeeze the side of the Axim to make it work.
They had me try soft reset and hard reset and nothing worked. They said, we will be dispatching you a new unit. It should take 3 business days to get to me. Ok, that was a great deal. Well, lo and behold, the very next morning I get a ring at the doorbell and it was Airborne with the replacement. WOW! That was super fast. Talk about service. LOL

I got the A04 rom and everything looks good, but now I can't connect via async. Before I was able to at least connect to send files over, now it does not want to even connect.

Not sure what to do. Should I remove async and start off fresh? And remove from PC and Device?

Any help would be great.

Thanks for any help in advance,
Mike
