I just wanted to know if anyone here knows if it exists a gamepad that can be connected to the Axim. Reason is that everytime I distract myself and play games, I feel as if I am going to destroy the small buttons and pad.
Has anyone thought about splicing a Axim sync cable and rewiring it with a Zeta controller. I have a link to the Zeta controller below, and I think this will work. If I get some time I will give this a try. Just have to get my hands on the hardware.

Well, if anyone has done this with success, please let me know. It would really save me some time if I already had a wiring diagram.
I doubt this would work. The Axim's bottom connector is an RS232 TTL-level port, so in order for a standard RS232C device to work with it, a RS232-TTL convertor is required in-line. I have played around slightly with some ideas to get a standard gamepad to work on the Axim....but did not have any luck....granted, I have not had enough time to experiment but with just one idea. I have more ideas that I plan to try out at a later time.

You make a good point, but is the purpose of the serial cable? Do all of the devices that you connect the Axim convert the signal to RS232 TTL? For instance, does your laptop have to support RS232 TTL or is the conversion in the top of the connector (the part that plugs into the Axim)? Also, don't serial devices exist that work with both the Axim and the Ipaq that only require a different cable?
I have taken a number of electronics classes in may day, and I really can't see what the big deal is concerning the hardware. The way I see it, you just splice two cables and pray that you get a connection.
When considering RS232 I also doubt that you can mess up your Axim if you put the wires in the wrong order. If you do, then it is covered under the warranty.
You don't have to tell Dell that you plugged up some stupid cable to it. Just say the freaking thing is not working, and I haven't cracked the case.
That should resolve any fears regarding the hardware. However, I suggest after splicing the cable from the Axim, you take a volt meter to check the output of each connection. This will help you to narrow down a few wires.
The only problem that I have is with the software. I have no clue how to make a driver. I can make a basic app, but that is the limit to my current programming abilities. I guess if I have some books on the subject, and more time I could come up with one.
However, I would need to have schematic for the Dell in order to save time and to avoid mistakes. It is kind of hard to test software with questionable hardware.
I guess, if anyone has some expertise in either area then I am willing to split the work load. However, I really don't have the time to do both.
FYI: That stinger idea is cool, but that is no driver. Just a fancy app. A cheesy, but affect way to get the job done. I appreciate the time and effort spent on that project. I is inspiring.
I have a question for or those of you who do have the Gravis Stinger, but cant get it to work.
Have you ever tried to put a wire that goes from pin1 on the stinger to the pin1 on the Axim cable? If you do this for all 9 pins then you should get a connection.
I hope I said that right, but the point is that you shouldn't have to cross over the transmit and receive wires. This is already be done in the Axim and the Stinger hardware. A null modem reverses this, hence no connection.
In other words, both devices are sending on the same wire. That means they are talking REALLY LOUD AT THE SAME TIME. Hence, no connection.
I hope this helps. I don't have a serial cable or a stinger, but I do want to hear that someone got this to work.
I don't remember the lengh requirements for RS232. If my previous idea doesnt work then you may have to cut the cable. However, I think the spec will allow the the combined lengh of the Axim serial cable and the Stinger serial cable.
If anyone knows this or feels like researching this them please post back.
I doubt I will have time to look into this, despite my numerous post. :)
I've tried using the stinger driver with several cable combinations (I bought all the stuff I needed to make serial cables.) Anyway, the best I was able to do was make Activesync pop up on my Axim because it thought something had connected. I ended up selling my Dell serial cradle on Ebay, and will probably get rid of the stinger soon...
