I'm so new my Axim X5 has not arrived yet... and I'm new to PDA's To while away the hours to it's arrival I'm researching :rolling:.
I notice that a lot of ppl lose files etc. or even the OS and have to keep backing up. I understand the point of backing up to ROM but is there a way of backing EVERYTHING up to a PC.
With my PC I ghost another HDD so as soon as something starts to go pearshaped I just ghost from the second HDD and like magic all is back to normal.
I use the backup feature of ActiveSync. Works fine and costs $0.
A lot of people do, but they (and you) are missing a lot of functionality. For example, AS will not backup a card, Sprite will. AS will not backup OR restore only one file or a group of files. Sprite will. AS will not schedule a backup. Sprite will. Oh, and if you upgraded to 2003, AS would not restore. Sprite did.
I can just copy the contents via wifi of my storage cards.
You're certainly correct about the (lack of) ability to restore individual files though. That's a good point. Still doesn't make it worthwhile spending the cash for me but I can see the value.

If you only buy one peice of software for your axim BUY THIS. 3 times now my axim over the weekend has flattened the batery and lost all the data on the rom. This software has saved me loads of times.
The active sync backup software takes so long thats its untrue. The sprite software takes hardly any time at all and you can set it up to backup during the night when you won't be near the computer.
P.S. i don't work for Sprite software i just really love this software
One more sprite fan here. Of course, I bought it with a hefty aximsite discount not so long ago .... I never could quite justify the full price, but now that I have it I think I could. Good program, made even better as a bargain.
Many thanks guys for your ideas. I note that this is a very active message board and I am sure I will be back soon. Probably to ask a stupid question :-)
Thanks again.
