Cool How to view maps on the Axim x5

hello all, on my old palm i used to use fireviewer to view subway maps etc.... are there other programs out there for Axim x5 to view like subway maps, etc.. I live in NYC and to have that option on my axim would be great. If anyone can help that would be cool...

If you mean street maps supplied by third parties, Howard2K's suggestion of Pocket Streets might work for you. Other solutions include Mapopolis, Routis, and a couple of others whose names I've forgotten - check in the GPS forum for details.

If you mean you want to create your own maps, or save Mapquest (or the like) maps as graphics, then you could use Sunnysoft's MapView which allows you to define a set of graphics as sections of a larger scrolling map. You can drag the map around to view it, mark points of interest and name them, and use it with a GPS unit.

MapView isn't free but it's very inexpensive. There might be free programs that do the same, but if so I haven't come across them.

Metro is a very interesting application. Not a map, but a direction finder that uses the subway map to give you guidance. May not be what you want, but it's amazing, nevertheless.

I use Metro 5.1.2 from:

nanika.net/metro.

This is an excellent FREE program. They update often and it has every major subway system in the world.

I have used this system in London, Paris, Glasgow and Rome plus Atlanta and the USA.

Hope this helps

Or, for a much simpler solution, you can simply find a .jpg or .gif image of the map that you want, drop it in the Axim, and simply view it as a picture ;) Very crude, but works very well.....

The metro is great. Make sure you download the correct Pocket PC file. It's a zip file, read the instructions for installing.
I have had it for a year and always do the updates when available. They will notify you with new software files by email.
