Upgrade...
I have had my Axim since June, and I bought it after the specified date, so I am elligible for a free upgrade...
What do I do to get this? I thought they would just send it to me when it came out, but apparently not. What do I need to do to get my 2003 upgrade?

I'd just contact dell customer service...and as long as it was bought after the date..then they should just be able to send you the 2K3 A05 ROM CD

What was the specificed date? I bought my X5 second hand, it was originally purchased in late July and doesn't have MW2003 on it...would it be possible to get a free upgrade despite not being the original owner?

I say, if it ain't broke, don't "fix" it.

Read some of the ASync problems with WM2003, among others. If you've got an X5 Basic, upgrade to A03, if you've got an X5 Advanced, go for the A04.

I just read too many problems after folk have "upgraded" to WM2003 to make it worth it for me to take the risk.

If you're eligible for the CD, get it, just don't use it............unless & until something comes along that will correct WM2003/A00, that requires it to be installed first.

Personally, I think it will be WM200X and not an A00 Update. I know there's already been a Patch for X3s that Dell calls an Update, but it is X3 specific, not WM2003 in general.

So........if it ain't broke...........

I'm pretty sure that you had to contact dell by the end of last november to get the free upgrade. But of course they'll still sell ya one for $30.

Look, for those of you that want the latest to greatest AND don't mind spending the time to tinker around if things go wrong AND for those of you who have the capability and/or don't mind manually re-installing all your apps if they don't re-install properly, then I say, go ahead. If you have the newer 255 chipset, my understanding is that there will be a speed improvement and better performance using Internet Explorer.
Given all of that, though, for me it's not really worth it. My Axim is performing just fine as is, Active sync 3.5 and all!

I think i'll stick
I think I'll stick with my PPC2002 with the 255 A02. It has never let me down yet. I might consider it again sometime in the future, but for right now, it is perfect as it is.

If you have 2002 with a 400MHz PXA255 you should upgrade to A04. It enables the 200MHz FSB through the Maximum Performance mode.

Several utils will do the same thing without having to reload the OS... even if you have a 300Mhz PXA255.

my oppinion is, that ppc2k2 is fine, but if you are a gamer, and tend to push your system to its limits, with stuff like emulation and 3d gaming, then the speed increase is well worth it. Also upgrade if you rely on PIE alot. However for people with the x5 basic, i do not think it is necessary. Especially for people who use the axim for PIM data only.

Howard-
Any suggestions on how to easily update my 255 ao2 to ao4?
