Program to Soft reset, Hard reset, and shutdown?
Hi all,
Wondering if you guys could help me. Is there a program out there that can initiate a soft reset, a hard reset and a shutdown? I know Wisbar can but do you know of any others.
I am still awaiting my axim 400, has shipped and if it wasn't for this snowstorm in nyc i would have received it today but i might receive it tommorrow or wed, luck permitting. I hear a lot of complaints about people punching a hole in the reset button from using it, so i plan on using a program to do my soft resets. However, to do a hard reset, do you also need to use the soft reset button? perhaps hold it down longer? If so, I would want a program that could initiate a hard reset as well just in case.
Any help would be great, thanks.

You can accomplish a soft reset without using the stylus if you press in the area of the soft reset firmly with a finger. It take s a good press, but it will reset.
I do not know that you want to have a software hard reset method. The actual hard reset requires a press of the soft reset while holding the power button, so it's a two step process before you wipe out all your data.
Software solutions to the soft reset options are here.

Try this one out, it's called Pocket Toolman. (It does what you want, and MUCH more. Basically, it pulls together many of the Axim settings/functions into a simple all-in-one menu. I really like the way it's set up.
I downloaded the freeware copy and it worked great. I then did a hard reset (for another stupid reason), and lost the freeware link, so I had to buy it at Handago for about $5.00. Still worth it, though. But, after doing that, I found the freeware link again. It's a slightly older build and doesn't specifically mention Axim compatibility. But, it was the one I was using and it worked great.

Tip: Reassign one of the buttons to launch the application, as well as launching it after a soft reset, and the handy menus will really come in handy.

Thanks All
Thanks All for the info,
XDlaw, hey great find on that program. One question though, I was looking at the screenshot of the PocketToolman program you found and I noticed that the Hard Reset option is right below the Soft Reset option. This may seem like a dumb question but even if you are prompted to confirm upon "accidentally" hitting the Hard Reset option instead of the Soft Reset option, don't you find it a bit uncomfortable and likely to make some mistake of hard resetting when you meant to soft reset?

You don't want to do a Hard Reset (which wipes out all of your stored data) unless absolutely necessary... I wouldn't advise having that available as a mis-tap...
But for your basic shutdown, soft reset needs, Shutdown (Win XP Style) does the job nicely, and it's free.

Diesel-
Don't worry about that. The developer made it very hard to do a Hard Reset. (No pun intended.) You need to go through about three extra steps to actually do one, so you don't need to worry about accidentally hitting the button.
On the later version (that I paid for), the Hard Reset option is hidden, unless you want it displayed. But, don't worry about it. In fact, just to see how it works, press it once. You'll see the steps required to actually hard reset.
Like I said, I really love this program! Although I would have downloaded the freeware version again if I remembered where I got it, I don't even mind paying a few bucks for the later one, since it's so handy.
I assigned my inbox button to the program, and since I downloaded the D-Pad patch, I can shutdown my Axim with one hand and without using my actual power button if I don't want to.

Xdalaw,
I will give it a try. Thanks for the find. I just might even buy the paid version. $5 is a small price to pay, especially for such a program. Besides, i'm all for supporting those poor hard working developers cranking out useful programs.
Once again, thanks to everyone.
