I wanted to ask if there are any programs out there (or @ least how hard would it be to write one) that would let you use your Dell as a second display to control things on your PC.
I'm asking because I recently upgraded from my crappy old GeForce FX 5600 to a Radeon 9600 Pro, and in the drivers I see the option for a second monitor. Will it be a possibility to use the Axim (x5 Advanced) as that second monitor (and the touch screen as an input device for that second monitor).
This is useful for doing things like
1. Keeping track of your CPU/Memory clock speeds and temperatures when O/Cing
2. Using it to change songs in WinAmp while I play Counter-Strike (no, HLAmp is not an option. Axim's mch cooler... and faster)
3. Controlling variables like volume and bass in Traktor DJ studio (mayb even using it as a virtual turntable, so instead of using your mouse to scratch, you'd REALLY use the screen like vinyl...
I think ths idea's easily possible, even might be already done, but I don't know about it. If anyone knows anything like this (or similar) plz pm me or post it here. Thx.

I know that using the axim as a second input is definately not an option. You would then have to think of the axim as an extra screen, keyboard, mouse and cpu, which definately isn't possible. As for the Radeon dual display option, it is only for extended desktop or displaying the exact same thing on both monitors IIRC. But if I'm not mistaken, you can run some sort of remote desktop software on an Axim, but nothing compared to what you want to do.

You could pick up an extra set of computer speakers and just play mp3's off of your axim.

I use this setup at work, and it works great. And then the extra speakers can be used for other inputs (CD, tape, etc) as the need arises as well. The best part for me is that the computer speakers have a volume adjustment right on the front that makes it very easy to kill the sound when I'm on the phone.
Actually, it may be possible, thanks to your daul-head Radeon. From what I understand, from asking a simular question on another forum, is that with the second display enabled you can run VNC on that 'head' and then use a remote machine as the monitor. Which should mean that if you enable the second display, run VNC server on it, then run VNC client on your Axim would yeild what you want.
I've played around with remote control of a PC and an Axim, and played around with dual display on a PC. However, I've never done both at once.
Notes:
Direct-X based games let you have a second display running with no troubles, but OpenGL games cause the second display to go blank.
You're going to need a network card of some sort, as going through the sync cable is really slow, when controlling a PC remotely.

The dual display of the 9600 is just for the built in outputs. I use dual display. Most of the Radeon cards you need the pro version to use two monitors. The other ones only support a monitor and a TV. My card has a VGA and DVI connectory. You can get a DVI to VGA adapter and then hook up a regular VGA monitor. You can get 17" monitors for $100 or less now with all the rebates.
The Axim cannot be a dual display in the way the Radeon card means. You can use VNC as described above but that's the reverse of what were mentioning.
The function you describe I do most of them with my Logitech keyboard.
It should be relatively easy to write a program that displays the kind of information that you want on your Axim.
ok... I agree that I was a bit over-the-top with the "I want to..." stuff...
RE Tom61: OGL causing second display to go blank is bad news indeed, as most newer games are based off of OpenGL, especially if they're 3d... and DirectX, as pumped full of M1cr0$0ft's bluff as it is, comes nowhere near the popularity of OGL. *sigh*.
As for using a second monitor, I (and I think many others) have severe desk space issues. I use an LCD (15") instead of my other alternative (a 21" CRT) mainly because the space on my desk barely accomodates even the setup I have...
Thanks for the help everyone.

I know I saw an app. at handango that would allow you to view your windows task manager info while your ppc is docked. Cant remember what it was called, but if I find it I will post again.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of MS and DirectX, it is mainly only iD and its game engines that utilize OpenGL. Probably 90%+ of Windows games are DirectX these days.
