What's the difference?

I have an X5 basic with the PXA250 and I keep seeing 255 on this board. Why did I get a 250 and what is the difference?

Thanks!

250 is a slightly older processor. Slightly slower and slightly thirstier. Around March 2003 (from memory) 255 based units started appearing.

Not a big deal. The 255 IS faster but we're not talking about copious amounts of speed.

250s continued to ship until maybe August?? Perhaps later if you bought a refurbished unit.

So Dell wouldn't do anything for me if I complained that I got a slower unit? I don't want to be a jerk, I'd just like it faster if I could get it.

(I did the A00 to A03 upgrade yesterday after hemming and hawing because of all the posted problems with doing it...please, it was the easiest thing. I honestly don't know how somebody could screw it up. Anyway... :-))

I haven’t had any problems with the upgrades, either, but to give people that have the benefit of the doubt, you can run into problems if your ActiveSync connection is iffy.

Dell has never listed the ‘number’ of the processor being supplied in the X5, so you have no recourse with that (they never promised you or anyone a 255, just an X-scale which is what you got) and IMO, the difference is certainly not worth the hassle of phoning Dell’s CS (nothing they or anyone else could offer me would convince me to do that again).
