memory problem
I have pocket PC 2003 and each time I run a program ie: Reader, tasks, contacts etc. after I close out the program I find that the programs are still running in memory. Is there any way to program the software so this doesn't happen? At this time I need to either soft boot or go to memory in settings and stop all running programs.

Thanks

Gary

Without a third party app, this is the way Unka Bill decided that our PPCs should run.......and run........and run, until we jump through his hoops to really shut them down.

The key is in those third party apps........IC Bar, WisBar and GigaBar all offer Real Program Stopping Xes (or icon of your choice) that will stop all of Unka Bill's nonsense and free up your memory. Without one of the other apps, your Axim will sense when it needs more memory and will automatically shut down the "oldest" running program that you are not currently using, but that's only when it decides it needs the memory. Most, however (like you and Me), would rather control this decision making ourselves.

IC Bar and WisBar can be found by mousing over the Resources button at the top of any page here and selecting Downloads.

GigaBar can be found by clicking on it.

They are all FREE. I prefer GigaBar because I've used it for four years. But I suppose each has it's benifits.

Does PPC2003 not have the Switcher tool developed by Dell?

If it does, then you can actually close programs w/ it...otherwise then you should get ICBar.

I use ICBar anyways...it's an awesome application.... I'm sure either of the three apps mentioned previously would do just fine however.

ICBAR can be found at: http://icbar.ictinus.com/

Dell's switcher app has problems closing some apps. ActiveSync and pocketWiNc are examples. You end up forcing a termination of the process rather than gracefully closing them.
