I am thinking of making my own battery pack for the Axim. I have seen a couple of sites that describe how to do this but it's always battery packs for the ipaq or the casios. I know the Axim is probably similar in design but didn't want to risk shorting my device or frying it by using one not geared for the Axim. If anyone knows how to do this or knows the webpage on how to create one with the prerequisite adjustments for the Axim I'd be happy to know.

I've been using a homebrew battery extender containing four rechargeable AA cells. No deleterious effects noted. So far, I've tried it with rechargeable alkalines and NiMH's, and the latter seem to last longer and deliver a bit more juice. The battpack was originally made for a Casio BE-300, which has considerably lower current draw.

If I needed a serious battery extender for my Axim, I'd look at making a new one, using C cells. I think their current output is close to the 2.4-amp draw of the Axim, and the voltage (a bit under 6V with four cells in series) should be well within the tolerable range. Of course, that starts to get a little heavy. At present, I'm happy with the original, which is light enough to be carried around daily. It's only used at work, when I need the Axim to stay on for awhile: rather than mess with power settings, it's easier just to plug in the battpack so that the Axim thinks it's on external power and stays on.

please let me know on your success..
my brother and i were going to mold our own cases, and use rechargables.. hehe =)

why not.. did you see the price of a battery? the big one is half the cost of an axim.. doh!

BUT really it's not that hard to construct one using recarchables. =)

I will attempt to make my own soon. I just want to verify for those who do know is there any possibility that I will fry my phone using 4-6 nimh AA batteries to recharge/power my Axim?
I hear all the parts can be purchased at Radio Shack and it's relatively cheap. Just the batteries is going to cost me a handful but still cheaper then buying a new Axim battery.

I was thinking more along the lines of plugging a pack into the charger jack. It's probably regulated internally.
