Question Help Convince Me of the Utility Value of the Ax!

Here's the scoop:

I bought a 400mhz Ax and received it about 2 weeks ago. I bought an 802.11b Wi-Fi card, a 256mb SD card, and downloaded tons of software and games to try out. Today I just returned the Wi-Fi card and SD card, and am seriously considering returning my Ax - though it scores very high points on the "cool index," it doesn't score very high on the "utility index" - that is, how useful it is.

I tried playing video on it and finally determined the only way that would *reliably* work was to use Microsoft's Media Encoder and convert anything I wanted to watch to Pocket PC-optimized wmv format - .ram files caused problems, avi files locked both Pocket TV and PocketMVP... quite a headache.

I tried using the wireless CF card and found that unless I was within pretty close proximity to an AP, the signal was too low to really do anything.

I tried both Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion - PI ( in my opinion ) is a far superior product but extraordinarily slow.

I have lost count of the number of soft resets I have done.

Don't get me wrong - I think the Ax is completely cool! I just need some convicing. Please tell me what you use yours for and why I really need to just keep my Ax!

Thanks a ton!

Better games to play in boring meetings than a Palm and not as obvious as a GameBoy... "I'm taking notes _really_"

And to me, a full suite of Internet tools and wireless access - almost every US airport has at least one hotspot now...

If you're looking for ideas of what other people do with their Ax, try these two threads:

The Axim is a...

and

Denial of a newb

Hope you'll decide to stick with this wonderful piece of tool/toy =)

Cheers.

I just hope your not going to return the ax for another pocket pc because you'll have the same problems, if not more.

You just may not use it enough to need it, I think most of use it enough to validate buying it and play with it way more then enough to be happy with it. I can't count the number of a Palm's I've been given and gave away because I didnt find it useful enough for me.

You can do almost anything on a ppc that you can do on a desktop in some form or another, albiet not as fast but thats like comparing a porche and a bug. You just need to either invest the time into assimilatign inot your routine, if you can't do that you can sell it here on the forums and maybe make your money back.

Heck... get rid of it. Obviously the Axim is causing you great pain. Palm has just waht you are looking for. Good luck.

Face it... sometimes enough is never enough.

Ciao,

Ron
