Dell's USB Travel Sync Cable

I have heard about the USB cable that you can accessorize with AC Charging and Vehicle Charging--as well as trickle charging via the computer's USB port. My question is this: Does the "Official" Dell USB Travel/Sync cable allow you to charge via the USB port, and can it be used with these third-party charging accessories?

Thanks,
-Tim

NO. The Dell Travel-Synch cable is just a portable (or cheaper alternative to the cradle for synching. The Dell AC adapter is directly plugged into the Axim for charging.

Let me clarify -- if you have a travel adapter that is just a power adapter, then it can be used in conjunction with the Dell travel-sych cable.

Mad Travel USD cable

The travel USB the comes with the AX doesn't allow you to charge with it. You are still required to have the 5.4V AC Adapter plugged in.

However, I'm go to the try and modify the cable.. USB have 5V on it and if you tap off the cable and add an AC adapter you could save buying another cable.. I will let you know how it works with details on how to do this.

I have the benifit of designing cable for a living and I believe it will work.

Rudeblues, check this out. I know I would do it if it worked.

Thanks Poor Fat Kid

Thats not exactly what I had in mind, but it works! I do like it however. My thoughts are just to splice in an AC line off the sync cable and plugging into the AC port on the AX. That way you have a nice portable cable.

My guess is the only reason Dell doesn't already do this is because of the extra $$$ they make off accessories when they sell consumers an extra AC adapter.

Thanks for the replies so far. Now I know that the Dell cable will not charge on its own, but is it cabable of plugging into these adapters that go into the AC power and the vehicle lighter? In other words, will the Dell Travel Sync cable (USB Male) plug into the (USB Female) input of the Travel Charger Accessories that can be found at www.thepocketsolution.com ?

I.E. Will it charge or will it let the smoke out of the AXIM?

Thanks!

MrTimmy,

NO, the wall and car adaptors from Pocket solution will NOT work with the Dell USB travel sync cable. I wanted to do this too and ordered these two units from Pocket Solution. They arrived yesterday and they *DON'T* charge the Axim with the Dell USB Sync cable.

Here's the link:

At the time I ordered, they did not have this package. So, I ordered the 2 adaptors individually without the pictured charge/sync cable.

I'm waiting for the charge/synch cable from Boxwave to arrive and pretty sure it WILL work with these adaptors as it is advertised as CHARGE & sync cables:

Cheers,

Sabesh.
