x5 basic overclocking (you're experiances)

Hi, I know there is a lot written in this forum about this subject but I just wanted to get some peoples opinion. I have an x5 basic and have tried both Turbo Tray and SpeedStepper for overclocking. I had problems with Turbo Tray trying to get my ppc to run at 400 and 498. However with SpeedSteeper I have had sucess and no problems getting my ppc to run at 398. I am just curious as to what kind of overclocking progams people have used with their x5 basic? and what speeds they have achieved? Also what problems they have had if any? Has anyone been able to get there basic to run over 400 consitintly with no problems? Also does anyone know if an upgrade from A02 to A03 while improve my chances of overclocking past 400? Any input you have would be great. Thanks in advance

I believe its TT498 that I use... only overclock it when watching movies other than that the regular speed is suffice in all uses.

I've got a basix w/ pxa-255 processor.

I use xcpuscalar to overclock to 472 without problems.

However, my CF Card does not like that speed.
SD Card works just fine.

My spbBenchmark went from 870 to 1250, but I don't think that accurately reflects the increased speed. (ie. My Axim is damn fast now)

thanks for the info!!
which version of xcpuscalar do you run? I say the 400 version but it says it only runs on the axim x5 advance. Do you use this one or another version?

I've used this one here http://www.wibble-wobble.com/wince/xscalectrl/.
I can get my Basic up to 400Mhz, just adjusting the processor speed, and not touching the memory speed.
Works really well, doesn't seem to affect battery life, and really stable.

I am away from My Axim, OOOHHHH NNNOOOOO. Ayway at work I dont always have it with me, I know I'm Sorry. I use a overclocking Program, not for sure but could find out. I have the 400 mghz and I have clocked it to 500 with no ill effects . I have not super tested it, just wanted to see if it would work and it does. The company said that it works with the 300 and 400 but to run it at about 100 each speed above to be safe, depending on the model. I have been busy putting programs and moving stuff in mine. I have over 800 programs with mine, so I have to do lots of adjusting and I love it. It is my library in my pocket. Maybe one day I will test it and then reply. This is probably not much help, just wanted to let you know that the Axim CAN handle it.

Are these overclocks on the Advanced or on the Basic, as I think the thread was started to see what could be done with the 300Mhz Basic model?

Well since I started this thread I thought I should write an update. After trying Turbo Tray 498, Speed Stepper, and XCPUscalar, I have a clear cut winner. With Turbo Tray I had no sucess at 400 or over and it caused some problem. With SpeedStepper "which is free by the way" I could go to 398 with no problems. However with XCPUscalar 400 I have been running at 472 for games with no problems whatsoever, I know it costs a little money but for me it is worth it, and pocketSnes is much faster now. Anyway just my opinion and what works for me. By the way I have an x5 basic with a pxa255.

Is it true that overclocking voids the warranty? I also have an X5 basic but still have about 4 months left on the warranty so I am reluctant to try any of these programs. I have also read that the PXA255 processor is the same in both the 300 and 400 models (300 is just tweaked to run slower) so running the basic at, say, 398 really shouldn't be harmful. The only thing I would consider using it for would be the SNES emulator. Does overclocking allow you to run movies at a higher fps? I currently get about 12 fps at 256 kbps.

I am not sure but I believe it is true that over clocking will void you warrenty. And I also think it is true that the pxa255 processor in the basic is the same as in the advance it is just modofied to run slower if I have read somewhere that an axim basic with a pxa255 can be clocked to 472 but one with a pxa250 cannot for some reason. Anyway like I said I only overclock when using pocketSnes and I havent had any problems. Also I think sppedStepper is free on this sight which i used to run at 398 for pocketSnes with no problems.
