It is gone for now, but news is that it will return when Dell catches up with the back orders.

It would be a sad day if Dell stops production of the X5. A great device that has double the expansion capabilities.

BTW: The TB Lightning are first i the East-Go Bolts

if catching up with back orders were all they're doing, it would not take 3 months to restock.

If the Axim X5 is re-introduced, I would bet money that it will have a new CPU or more memory or something. Whatever the change is, it's quite possible it will be related to suporting the new PPC OS microsoft is supposed to release this year...(Magneto(?))

maybe they're applying te d-pad mod, by hand, to each an every one of them.

or maybe there are quality control issues they're trying to iron out.

we won't know until we know.

regardless it will not be the same X5--at least in the aggregate. I doubt even quality control would take 3 months to fix. how could any manufacturer make any money if improving their production meant sidelining their product 100% for 3 months?

the other possibility is that a factory has been blown up and they are rebuilding, in which case 3 months is PDQ.

......or.........perhaps they're just forcing as many impatient-to-get-an-affordable-PDA folk as is possible to buy into the Single/NO CF Slot X3s.........

I for one have been waiting on its return as I want the CF for an integrated GPS. I called last week and was first told that it was discontinued. I asked the rep to check and when they came back they said it would be available early April at the latest - maybe sooner.

i certainly hope so. i have had mine since december 2002 and love it. the only thing i regret is not getting the advanced version. if they do come out again soon, i may have to correct that mistake!
