Wireless ActiveSync keeps doing guest partnership
i finally got my wifi up and working. i had to set the ip information on my axim though. syncing through the usb cradle works great, but when i startup activesync on the axim and click on "sync" the microsoft activesync window on my computer shows it is connected as a guest. how can i fix this?

I have exactly the same problem, I can synchronize fine using the cradle but when I connect using my wifi network, I can only connect as guest (internet and all the rest is working fine).
I got once a succesful synchro using the wireless but then nothing.
I followed the various tutorials I found but nothing.

Was there ever a resolution to the Guest problem when syncing over wifi?

I have a very similar problem - but some curious results.
My setup includes a laptop with WiFi and my Axim with Dell CF WiFi.
I have found WiFi and the Axim really good. No problems generally, especially web browsing which is a dream.
However -
If I take the exact same configuration and at home plug the laptop into my home LAN the Axim can use ActiveSync no problem - with the laptop recognising the pocket_pc partnership.
If I connect the laptop into my work LAN - which is nothing special - then when the Axim tries to connect to the Laptop it is recognised only as guest ? I just cannot get the darn thing to get emails transferred while at work.
I can repeat this reliably - I need to investigate what the effect of the LAN connection is on my laptop perhaps..
I have also scanned all the newsgroups, tried ideas where suggested, but all to no avail..
Any ideas ?
PS. Chercm - The server settings are if you want to connect directly to Microsoft Exchange Server (which I think needs to be configured for Mobile access). You don't need to use this if your PC has got Outlook on it and access to the MS Exchange. I don't think you use this at all if you are just getting messages from a pop3 etc. account

Activesync uses TCP/IP to communicate with the Axim. I would look at the differences between the network at home and the network at work in how IP numbers are assigned to the devices attached. A/S identifies your Axim by the IP number and name. It can flex on the IP number, to accomodate DHCP, but once it pairs up a partnership with an IP number, if that IP number changes and A/S hasn't seen a "disconnect" from the old IP number it won't let you connect to the partnership and defaults to Guest.
There may also be firewall differences between home and work that are confounding the activesync connection process.

For anybody with the "Guest" issue, are you using Pocket Hosts to define the IP address in the registry for the desktop host? I did and had the "Guest" problem but when I took the host out of the table it works flawlessly.

I had the same problem when using VPN. I would VPN in to my network and try and sync, however, every time I got a guest connection.
After making some changes and comparing what I had changed, I realized that by REMOVING the entry I had in PocketHost for my desktop PC, everything worked fine.
So for some reason, specifying a host/IP entry in PocketHost was interfering with the Syncing process.
Hope this helps!
I found by removing the entry I had in PocketHost for my desktop pc, everything worked fine!

Thanks to all that posted - My problem was solved by removing the entry in PocketHosts. I had uninstalled this program, but did not have obvious visibility that the setting was left behind to affect operation. (So I reinstalled - removed the setting - uninstalled the app - know it works without issue !)
I originally installed this as a recommendation from a different thread to resolve a problem where I cannot access the internet through my laptop using Axim & WiFi. I could not get the setting in ActiveSync - 'Passthrough' to operate as expected.

It really should be noted that PocketHosts is merely a helper application that makes it easier to enter data into the registry that define static hosts. Most computers have an actual file called "hosts", but CE stores static host data in the registry, and it is fairly obtuse to enter manually.
The key thing is that uninstalling PocketHosts does not remove the static host data from the registry.
