How easy is it to return things to Dell?
I am wondering how difficult and time consuming it would be to return things to Dell? The reason I ask is because I just ordered an Axim from Dell last week and it just shipped. Then today I got my statement in the mail from Dell and included was a coupon for a FREE 64mb SD card with the purchase of a 400mhz Axim. Well I call Dell to see if I can add this to my order and am promptly told no. What a ripoff!!! I am thinking about ordering another Axim just to get the card for free, then sending it right back to Dell. It may not be worth it but it really irritates me. I have had nothing but problems with them and want something in return. What do you guys think? Have you ever returned stuff before, and how long does it take? Thanks
Clay

hey you bought the Ax with out any such deals you new what you were getting and now you want the new promo. I dont blame you, but its just not honest if your asking this forum on a lesson in ethics I am sure you will get a # of different opinions but this is truly a decision you must make on your own. I bought my Axim and a week later they went 10% off now you can get a $50 rebate. There is no way I will part with my Ax for a $ 50 rebate that will take forever to get or for a puny 64 Mb card if it were 256 - 512 then you might have a point. But then again you bought it under the conditions at that time. no promos as did I and I am still happy.

I can't vouch for how easy it is to return things to Dell, BUT...
By law they must allow you to return a product within something like 3 days I believe. You probably would have to strong-arm them and/or talk to a manager, but you should be able to return your FIRST unit when it arrives, then order the other unit with the free upgrade.
Why must you return the first unit? Because they will require you to return the memory upgrade with the second unit if you choose to return the second unit. It's only free to people who BUY the Axim, not people who rent them for a day.. :)
I bet though if you called them to get an RMA on your first order and then strongarmed your way to a manager to tell him WHY you were returning it that he might give you the deal without all the hassle of returns...
But you need to be polite about it when you call. Be firm - let them know you are convinced that you deserve the memory - but don't be rude. Even though their customer service sux, their salespeople will generally bend over backwards to help you.

Good Idea. I may try doing that. But if they don't give me the memory and tell me to send it back, I don't want to. Can i just say forget it and keep it then?

Actually, I believe they have a thing, where if a promo comes out and its within a grace period you can call them. I would recommend calling customer service first before even thinking about returning it.
Dell is nice like that.
I remember people getting 10 % off for a promo, that was 2 weeks after they bought it... just my opinion.

.....and you would go through all the hassle of returning something for a $30 memory card?

I understand it is only a $30 card. But if I can get them to give it to me, or if it would be easy to buy another axim, get the card, send it back, then I will. It's the whole principle of the matter. I want my free card!!!! I am a college student with little money. Every little bit helps.

I did read your post Budman and I do plan to try that route first. If it works then great, if not then I may just scrap the idea.

Dell Returns
Dell will accept returns for up to 30 days of the invoice date - it's part of their "guaranteed satisfaction" policy. You just need to fill out the form on their website, found at the link below...

Seems a lot of hassle for nothing. I appreciate you're a student and that every little bit helps I really do.
However, you bought a product in an industry that changes daily. Today it's a memory card... tomorrow the price will drop $50 and the next day something else will happen. Personally, I put a price on hassle and time as well so I always think carefully before considering such measures.
Whatever you do, good luck and I hope you get what you want. :)
