Help! Windows XP re-install

Hi, I just had to reformat my desktop and re-install Windows XP (what fun!). I was able to save all my Axim programs on a CD.

Not sure what I need to re-install from the original Dell software that came with the Axim. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks so much!

Lauren

Activesync would be the only one that you would HAVE to reinstall. I would make sure that you had the lastest version first though. (3.7.1) Usually the disk has like 3.5 on it so check it out.

Just installing ActiveSync didn't seem to do it. I also need Outlook and it didn't let me check all the options. I also had trouble getting it to recognize my user name. I did save the profile from my old system and my sync folders.

It seems like I ought to need the drivers or other files for something, wouldn't you think??????

You are right that I am Windows 2003 - upgraded a couple of months ago

Question XP reload problem

Ibabus -

Tell me something about your setup. Usually, all you need to talk to your PocketPC is Activesync. However...

What version of Office/Word were you running?
What settings exactly are not functional now?
Were you using a full version of Outlook or just Outlook Express that comes with XP?

Let's start here and see what we can work out.

actually there is a driver on the companion cd that is required in order for the system to recognize the device. active sync alone is not enough.

I have done this several times and found that it works best to download the latest Axim driver from their website. Go to Support, enter your tag id for the axim and select downloads. Once you set the os to xp, the driver will be listed.
Then install Activesync 7.3.1.
Delete any existing partnerships, then create a new partnership. This should create a sync folder on your desktop. You can copy your data from the cd backup to that folder and it will all sync.
Post how it goes.

Hmmm

Well, had been running Win2k with no ActiveSync issues. I finally decided to wipe the drive and install WinXP Pro. Of course, I installed Outlook and made sure I could exchange e-mail BEFORE I installed ActiveSync, but I didn't have to install any special drivers. As soon as AS started installing, it came to the expected "connect your cradle, turn on your device and insert it in the cradle..." screen, and I followed suit by plopping my X5 into the cradle. I didn't even have to click on anything---AS immediately saw the X5, and came up with my password screen. Once I entered the password, I got the normal "Standard or Guest" screen and went from there. Whole process took all of about 3 minutes. It syncs cleanly.
