How long will the battery last . . .
if it is fully charged and not used? I am going on a trip for and will not be taking my Axim with me. Will I have to restore it when I get back?

Leave it plugged in. It won't harm the batteries at all and you'll have peace of mind that it'll be there when you get back.

That does bring up other questions
In the old days (say, 18 months ago), it was pretty common practice to extend battery life (on PDA's, cell phones, cordless phones) by ensuring the occasional complete discharge & recharge so that a "memory" of short discharges & charges didn't develop. Does the current battery technology have similar needs?

I dont' think I'd leave mine plugged in that long... but mostly because I live in an area with frequent thunderstorms.

Lithium Ion batteries do not have those tendencies. There are no memory issues at all. Charge it as long as you wish. The depletion is also not linear. Meaning the lower the charge the quicker it will deplete. From 100% to 90% will last much longer than 60% to 50%.
