Changed Copy of Files

Why do I have multiple copies of some of my data files? For example, I have an Excel file named Book1.pxl. But, I also have others named "changed copy of Book1.pxl" and " changed copy of changed copy of Book1.pxl". Why?

It happens with all sorts of files (notes, Pocket Word, etc.) I'm guessing that it occurs when I synchronize. Is there a way to stop this?

I have gotten that before. I think it is from an accidental drag and drop into the same location.

Perhaps that's one cause, but it happens too often to me for it to be an accident. I think it might be some "backup" setting someplace.

I have been experiencing the same problem as part of some pesky sync issues. I sync to 2 computers--one at home and one at work, and for a couple of weeks I was getting a box every time I synched to either computer saying I had items that hadn't been synched before and do I want to overwrite the handheld or combine. If I chose combine I would get duplicates of appointments, contacts, notes, etc. I would also get the "copy of filename" and "changed copy of changed copy..." in My Docs.

I finally deleted the partnership on the computer and basically started over with all the synch settings. So far it's working on my office computer, haven't gotten that far on the home computer yet--almost afraid to try and synch there again :)

You might make a backup copy of the affected file--ie move it from the Pocket PC My Docs folder to elsewhere on your computer. Then delete it from PPC My Docs, synch to delete it from X5, delete all the "copy of" "changed copy of" etc. Then try to add the file back in to My Docs and start over.

Thanks
• Jeff

A program to remove changed copies

:realmad: I have them all the time and I am fed up with them, too.

I remember some few years ago a program was written by clergyman to deal with this particular problem. I wonder if it is still available and updated.
