Do you mean backup as in a program like this?

http://www.spritesoftware.com/pocket_backup_2_beta.html

or how to move files from the Axim to Desktop and back?

Sorry for not explaining myself properly.
What I would like to do is copy (as a backup) files to my desktop etc on my computer, so if I ever have to hard reset my Axim I can restore my files!
TIA - manxman

Check out that link. I use that program all the time and I think it works much better than the one Dell included. As far as programs, you'll have to reinstall them (unlike PALM OS) so keep a copy of all the files you install on your desktop.

I've used the Active Sync backup and restore on the PC, and besides taking forever, it works great. All my programs were restored, including the old partnership.

I would recommend syncing "Files" if you don't use it already, since this will provide an extra copy of your main My Doc folder.

Dock the Axim and click on Tools, Backup/Restore (on the PC Active Sync window). Click on "Full Backup" and "Back Up Now".
This can take up to an hour, depending on how much stuff is in your RAM. Later you will update the Backup by using "Incremental Backup", which is quicker.

After a hard reset or removal of both batteries, the RAM will wiped and the OS reinstalled fresh. To restore, dock the Axim after setting up the screen, but don't enter any ID name or personal info. Connect as a Guest, and click Tools, Backup/Restore and go to the Restore tab, click on Restore Now.

All will be returned to the exact way it was when you made the backup. You will be asked if you want to resume the old partnership, and this time accept it. Now it will ask you if you want to restore the sync folder, to update changes made there since the backup was made. Make sure you direct the flow from PC to PPC only.
The Axim will now be returned to the way it was at the last sync.
