Wants to connect every minute
My Axim5 has just started doing this. It trys to connect about once a minute when it is not cradled. The message comes up "Trouble connecting. Unable to connect with current settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings." Then two gray boxes OK and Settings...
I have tried every setting (I think).
I haven't loaded anything new on it. As a matter of fact, it hard reset last week and it is still trying to connect. I connect through my cradle. No wireless connecting.
This is driving me nuts. Thanks for any help.

ActiveSync always active even when not connected
I'm having the same issue, I close the ActiveSync connection, disconnect my usb or WIFI adaptor... and then a few minutes later it pops up again.
I use MagicButton (highly recommended) so when I click the X in the top right corner, applications REALLY close, rather than minimize... however no matter how many times I close ActiveSynce it still re-activates later.
What I am unsure of (only cause I'm too lazy to time it) is what intervals it pops up at... is it exactly every minute? every 5 minutes???
Either way, when I'm not connected and I'm playing solitair...or worse yet - typing - its annoying to have it keep connecting or trying to.
ANyone know how to make active sync stay inactive untill I click on it ????:rolling:

go to your inbox, account tab, accounts...,highlight your accounts and hit enter, go to the screen that has an option box on it (about 3 or four screens) . That is where you find it.

Your email settings will be in the Inbox, Accounts, Accounts..., select the name of your account, Next through to the 4th page, select Options, uncheck the "Connect and check for ..."
Check my posts here, here, and here about this problem and other possible solutions beyond changing these settings I just described.

I assume you're talking about the "inbox" on the Axim on the today screen. I only have tabs for "new", "Tools" and "Services".
Under "Services" AciteSync had a dot beside it. "New Services" is the only other one that is highlighted. "Connect" "Clear All" and Mark for Download" are all grayed out.
Under "tools": "Manage Folders", "Empty Deleted Items" "Status.." and "Options..."
I see nothing about getting EMail - much less setting it for 5 minutes, or never, or manually!
Uner ActiveSync I have "Tools". Under that Connect with IR... and Options...
Under "Ooptions" PC which I checked Enable synchroniation when crakded using USB default. Nothins is checked under "Server" or "Schedule".

Sorry, Bonnie, most people with this problem are running WM03 but it's clear from your description that you have PPC02. If the only 'service' you have in the Inbox is ActiveSync, then I don't think the Inbox has any involvement in your problem and it's probably not ActiveSync on the PPC, either. Have you ever set up a dial-up connection? Under ActiveSync on the PC (while connected), look at Options, Schedule (tab). Is the box "When not connected..." checked?

Dell Switcher Bar is a marvelous improvement! Go to Start->Settings and in the middle tab I forgot what it is go down to the bottom and click on Switcher Bar. Close the Settings window and there is a new thing in the middle of the top bar. Click on it and select ActiveSync. Then go to the menu again and click "Exit current program". ActiveSync is now exited.

ActiveSync still loads regardless of Email check settings
I tried to follow the steps you guys suggested, but found that my email settings were already disabled.
My Axim x5 Basic only checks for mail when I enlist it too... and active sync still pops-up without reason.
To answer the second half of the questions above, I'm using WM2003 not 2002.
For the most part when I'm not using WIFI, I just leave active synce running int he background - its the only way I can avoid those "cannot connect" messages that interrupt my work.
As long as its running or trying to run, it doesn't interrupt me. If I close it - it reopens a few minutes later with the message.
How annoying.

Thanks for all the suggestions. However, My Axim had quit trying to connect all the time as mysteriously as it started!! I have no idea of what started it nor what "fixed" it.
