a little info on the next generation PDAs and smartphones
I wasn't sure were exactly to post this, so here it is. Looks like this processor will be the one we have been wanting. DVD quality playback says it all. enjoy
Intel unwrapping its power-saving cell chip
Intel Corp.'s Austin design team introduces a new processor family for smart cell phones and personal digital assistants today.
The latest chip, code-named Bulverde, borrows MMX multimedia and power-consumption technology from Intel's desktop and notebook computer processors to deliver videoconferencing capability for cell phones and DVD-quality video playback for PDAs.
The high-performance chip, formally known as the PXA27x, can run as fast as 624 megahertz in performance-hungry PDA applications such as 3D gaming, while throttling back on speed and saving battery life for other applications, such as playing MP3 audio files.
Intel marketers say the new power-conservation software that manages voltage and frequency of the chip can extend battery life by 50 percent in some applications.
Intel dominates the PDA market and is pushing for a bigger share of the smart-phone market.
