ActiveSync behaviour
I have two questions:
First, when I put my Axim in the cradle, it starts to sync with my PC right away, even though I have the manual option checked in the AS options menu on the PC. Also, I don't have any of the check boxes marked in the "Tools/Schedule" menu in AS on the Axim. Sometimes, I don't want it to sync, but just charge the battery. Have I not configured something right?
Second, when it does sync, it will not sync with Avantgo the first time around. I have to resync again to get the Avantgo updates. Anyone know what causes this?
Thanks for any help!

When you cradle it it doesn't actually sync, it just checks to see if a sync is needed. If it is, it turns the little spinner yellow. I don't think that can be defeated, except maybe to take the Ax out of the cradle, start AS on the Ax, then Tools, Options, PC and uncheck the Enable synchronization when connected to the PC. That will disable AS. However, the downside is that when you connect, you will have to manually start AS.

One question related to the above.
Why does my pc have to connect to the web BEFORE it will synch to my Axim?

Shouldn't have to. I bet you have a firewall running, and that you get a message that it's trying to connect to the internet. That's not happening, but what is happening is that Activesync uses TCP/IP to communicate with the Ax, and the firewall sees that activity as a "guest" (the AX) trying to communicate to a "server" (your PC). Since the only thing the firewall knows is that servers are on the Net, you get the message.
You can try to write a rule in the firewall to allow the Ax access to the PC, or you can ignore it. What I did was use an external firewall in my router and disable the firewall in the PCs in the network in my house.

I am not running a firewall.
Not even the one that comes with XP Pro.

I'll have to respectfully disagree....my Axim does sync when I put it in the cradle. It looks at what has changed and then goes through the all of my items that I have checked. It does this even though I have it set up for manual syncing only.
