How do you stop ActiveSync from connecting to the internet?

Every time I put the Axim in the cradle, it syncs and if I'm not on the internet Avantgo connects my dial up connection. It's really annoying to have to continuely click cancel. Is there away to stop Avantgo or ActiveSync from dialing up automatically?

Thanks

Set activesync to sync only when you want to do so manually. It's on the Activesync tools page on the Ax. To get to that page you have to take the Ax off the cradle/cable and then open activesync.

Thanks :)

A related but slightly different question. Is there a way to sync but not have AvantGo re-download everytime. I have a few custom channels that I set up and even though I configured AvantGo to only sync the channels once a day, every time I re-sync AvantGo does its thing.

Sorry about the grave digging here but I'm having the same problem. I set ActiveSync to manual and based on an older post, set outlook to connect via a LAN. These options had no effect and it's getting really annoying. Does anyone have any more ideas?

i keep avantgo unchecked in my active sync options so when i cradle my axim it does not sync. when i want to update my avantgo pages i just make sure to open the active sync options and check off avant go before i cradle my axim. it only takes about 5 seconds.

On this website (item 14 under Synchronization errors):
Quote:
Your PC attempts to connect to the internet whenever you synchronize. This is caused by ActiveSync attempting to start internet passthrough. You can disable this by launching ActiveSync, clicking on File - Connection Settings. Uncheck the option "Allow Network and RAS..." Also if you have an Inbox POP3 or IMAP4 account on your Pocket PC 2002, select the ActiveSync profile. This will prevent your Pocket PC from using the PC for internet pass through to access e-mail.
Note that the sentence I've made bold suggests you need to make a choice between using the passthrough option and stopping the dialing.

Do you have an email service set up on your Axim? If so, and it is selected, it will also cause the PC to dial. The solution for this is (on the Axim), Inbox, Services, select ActiveSync (not the email service you have installed). Of course, it would seem to me this would be an easy thing to forget to change if you frequently use the Axim to download your email.

I'm sorry, but I don't have an e-mail service set up on the Axim. I checked it out and ActiceSync is selected.

I Think I've Found It!!!

Hi Gang,
I'm a day behind you guys but I think I have found the secret - I know - many have said that before.
I am moving over to a new PC and from WinMe to WinXP. Previously, I solved my new setup of ActiveStink with two tricks. Going directly to the back of the PC usb port (probably same as using a powered hub) and using the usb sync cable instead of the cradle. Well, I have my sync cable at work - duh. AS installed ok but dropping connection before syncing fully using cradle - over and over - after several PC reboots and Axim soft resets.
The comment above about changing Tools in AS on the Axim was the clue.
1. On the Axim go to Start/ Programs/ ActiveSync/ Tools/ Options.
2. Leave the first checkmark for "Enable... cradle".
3. Uncheck EVERYTHING else on every tab.
Whoa it worked - everytime so far.
Why? I don't know - Third base!
4. Good luck.
Ron...

I fixed it!!!

OK, here's where my promlem was. ronaldb1 got me to thinking about the settings on the Axim itself. While I had AvantGo disabled on the PC side, the Ax was still trying to connect. All I had to do was delete the AvantGo settings from the Ax and voila! No more dial-up. Thanks for everyone's input!

Hey guys, some adtl. info on this problem, especially if you're using PPC2003...there's another place to check if your axim is still trying to connect to the internet when you're trying to synch..(and/or if you're getting a msg. on the axim, to check modem/proxy server settings, or are told you have no network card)

As IkeHiker mentioned earlier, you can go to START-INBOX and then tap on the ACCOUNTS tab, and make sure that Activesynch is chosen.

If you're still having problems, go back to that ACCOUNTS tab, and then tap on "Accounts". If you have any email accounts listed on that page, tap and hold down on that, and then tap on delete.
