I haven't received my Axim yet, but starting to wonder about things --- Will I be able to transfer data by IR from my Sharp Zaurus ZR-3000 directly to my Axim? I really dread re-keying all my data. If IR won't work directly, what PC application should I transfer it to first? Outlook? Outlook Express? or what?
What else is IR good for?
Can I IR directly to my HP Photosmart printer?
TIA, Dan

Not sure about direct transfer from the Zaurus, if it can transfer to Palm OS handhelds then it probably can. If not, you can use Outlook (included on the CD that comes with Axim) if Zaurus can sync to that (probably can, most handhelds do).

IR can be used to Activesync with a laptop that has IR, there are programs that let you use it as a remote for TV's and such (with varying range of usuability with the Axim).

If your printer has IR in (if it's a high-end model it might), HP released printer drivers for Pocket PC to let you print on it.

About Photosmart Printers

After much searching on the web, I have found that the P1000 is not an industry standard IR port, but it is only made to accept "JetSend" applications. Now, this wouldn't be so bad, because HP used to have the "JetSend" app for pocket PC 2002, but they no longer have it for download as of the last 8 months. I was able to get a cached version of HP's website off of google, but the download link is no longer good. Too bad Google doesn't just keep a cache of the entire internet :P. So for me, printing is null until I get my wifi network setup and print from the network. I'll keep the HP mobile printing software on my PPC cause it doesn't take too much room, and I might just run into a compatible printer one of these days. Plus, I wardrive a bit...and often find printers on a network . Hehe..just kidding...kinda...
