Streaming audio to my X5

I have been wanting to use my X5 to play MP3's from off a website. I have a link on a webpage that points to a .asx playlist on the webserver which uses url's within the .asx to point to the individual MP3's.

When I open the page and select the link on my XP desktop, it works as it should. Windows Media Player opens the playlist and starts playing music.

When I do the same on my X5 I get a prompt where I want to save my playlist, but even if I save the playlist locally and run it, it won't function. Likewise if I embed a url to a MP3 file within PIE it asks to save the file locally... Then after it has done that of course I can then play it...

Any ideas on how to make it work the way I want? Don't offer to use SMB shares, it does work this way, but I don't have SMB open to the Internet.

My Advanced X5 has WM2003 with SPB Plus 2.0... I have tried other players as well like gsplayer to no success.

Thanks.

First off it sounds as if the files are just sitting there, and not being streamed.

I used WM Encoder and have steamed mp3's, videos from my desktop, using both my wireless and cable connection. That is your best bet, there is a guide on this site to help you set that up, but the only way your going to get those file to stream is if you are streaming them to start (I believe). I have also setup a shoutcast server and sucessfully connected to that with the Pocket PC version of winamp.

You are right I am not using any type of streaming like what you mention. I am looking for a K.I.S.S. method and this does currently work for me on desktops, just currently not on my X5. I was hoping that I might just be missing some sort of reg hack to change the behavior on the X5.

If I have to I will just continue to use desktops/laptops when I am on the road as it allows me to have access to over 40 Gigs worth of albums.
