OK this is it. Dell not offering the Mobile 2003 SE update to current Axim owners has lead to verification of my beliefs.
I have always told people to never get a Dell anything. As a long time iPAQ user I never expected "Dell" to pull my attention away from HP/Compaq, but they did with X5 advanced. Truly a marvel for a first toe in the PDA market. Ignorant as I am, I went and bough a used Dell laptop to accompany my X5.
It has been about 6 months with my two first, and LAST Dill products ever. First, I shouldn't have to call a supportless tech support anyway. I had two answers for every situation, it will cost you $??.?? to fix our mess up (now my problem), and you can purchase our newest devices in replacement.
My oh my, what have I done.
Finally I have built another desktop from components of my liking and my Axim X5 just went up for sale. Excellent device, crappy company. If your interested in my X5 make me an offer mbl8jstn@hotmail.com
iPAQ here I come,
Boycott Dill, cause they are DUMB
Woah, aren't you jumping the gun a little there, man? When did they give official notification they won't be offering SE to any existing customers? Last I heard was unofficially they would, at least to part of them.
Frankly, my desktop is Dell, I have an Axim, all my servers are Dell...I've had a great time with them. :)
I completely understand your frustration, but unfortunately the Axim is much more affordable than any iPaq I've seen. For the money I save, it very nearly makes the extra hassle worth it.
But a while ago I vowed never to buy anything again from Dell after preordering an X5 from the first production run. The D-Pad and SD slot promptly broke, but Dell was unwilling to honor the warranty, so I had to file a complaint with the BBB and my state's attorney general. After months of meaningless back-and-forth, someone from Dell finally called and said he would personally make sure the warranty repairs would take place. He told me to expect a prepaid packaging label from them within the week. Two weeks later I still had nothing, so I called and found out the helpful CSR had been on vacation, so someone else took up my case again "personally," as she said. This time I did get the prepaid shipping label in addition to a refurbished replacement unit. Immediately I sent back the defective unit. But Dell claimed they never received it, so I started getting harassing phone calls at home and work demanding I send it back. They sent quite a few letters as well. After a month they finally stopped calling, so I'm guessing they figured out their mistake.
But then came along a deal I couldn't pass up--a refurbished X3 Basic for only $118 shipped. So I bought it. I agree, their customer service is the worst I've ever seen, but they offer some of the cheapest products available. If I could afford anything else, I would say to hell with Dell and never turn back, but for now it's all I can afford.

I never said I don't like Dell products. I have been an Axim owner and user since December 2002! And I was a Dell customer long before that.
But as soon as you have a problem, there can be trouble. For PDA's I prefer Dell over most everything. My frustration has nothing to do with the product, it's their customer service, which is dismally bad. I would only choose another PDA over a Dell if the other manufacturer had a better reputation for warranty service and general customer care, and if the reseller carrying the product had the same reputation.
Part of the problem with Dell is that there is only one option for warranty service, i.e. Dell itself. With other company's your recourse isn't quite so limited, since if anything you can try to go through the original reseller to get a replacement/repair, thereby eliminating the need for you, the consumer, to negotiate fees, credits, return, shipment, etc. with the OEM.
Like many others, I have a love-hate relationship with Dell. And if you don't yet, you will eventually.
So, to sum up:
Dell Product = Excellent
Dell Customer Service = Very, Very Bad.

My friends Toshiba laptop screen packed it in just out of warranty and guess what - no replacement parts - I think all of today`s products are junk and the manufacturers have lousy service - not just DELL - may as well just buy cheap and replace it when it`s toast cause you ain`t gonna get service no matter what company it is.

Ok so some of you live by Dell, and if that works for you great. I on the other hand would prefer to build my own PC add the OS and know exactly what I am dealing with. If something goes wrong, I can fix it (most of the time) without tech and or the hassle I have had with Dell. Someone said above that everything from there PPC to server is Dell and they are loyal to Dell, if you have had no or few problems with them there is no reason to dislike them. I have heard great reports about Dell servers, but that is a different market place than a desktop and or laptop and pocket pc. If you have a server you probably have a desktop an maybe a Pocket PC, on the other hand most people dont have servers but do desktops and laptops. I have never had a reason to not get a Dell before, now that I have had a few, I have my reason.
As for the Mobile SE update, it will most likely come with enough response from the consumer. What a great sales tactic, don't offer the service to begin with only to offer it later and be hailed as a fantastic cutomer listening corporation. LOL
MrKlaatu thats great, did you come up with that on your own?
2428 posts, amazing!!! I mean if you have a suggestion let me know, but why waste the post for a laugh among you friends. Let me know why I should use Dell, or something. Anyway I am not mad, just moving away from my short experience with Dell.

As is your reference to building your own PC, on a PDA Forum.

On my second dell laptop, my third X5, and have a dell desktop doing light weight server duty in my home office. Nary a problem to be seem. Perhaps if you explained you problems some of us might be able to help out. As it is you simply sound like a raving lunatic, no offense.
What is/was wrong with your laptop, what is wrong with your X5? If nothing, then why are you bitching? Over the SE upgrade that isn't even available, free or not?

I have not upgraded my Axim from 2002, and it still works just fine. I don't really KNOW why this upgrade is such a big deal. Is your Axim broken without it?
I know there are supposed to be some benefits from it, but from what I've read on the forums, it doesn't see to be universal in the benefits. Some people even have problems performing the upgrade.
But, then again I have a Pentium II - 400 Mhz with Win ME as my home PC.
