I spoke about those tiny magnets for these closures. Also if you move your credit card slowly enough to a booster speakers magnet, it won't harm, the speed of movement is the factor, as it is the alternation frequency to flip magnetic elements.

The time does only play a role with own magnet characteristics media liker former FE-tapes had, the later CR types didn't care on it like todays semiconductors.

I have the EB Slipper case and have never had a problem with my ScanDisk 64 MB SD card. The magnetic closure is strong enough to keep the case closed in normal use, but it isn't "locked" too tightly so that it's difficult to open.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed after reading some of these posts, though.

Magnets will NOT affect SD or CF cards. They do NOT store data by using magnetic means like a floppy or hard drive. I guess there could be a potential problem with IBM Microdrives since they are real hard drives, but even then, the likelihood of damage would be very small.

So Diesel, are you still going to go with the Sena case? I was debating the same issue...really want the eb slipper case, but was not sure about the whole magnetic issue so I was considering the sena case.

I'm comfortable after reading all of this (as well as the same topic posted in the Dell Community Forum) to go with the eb magnetic case. Thanks for starting this thread!

I have been using a leather money clip/credit card holder with a magnetic clasp for a year. It has two magnets that hold the bills in place, the magnets are about three times the size of the magnets on the axim cases in question. My credit cards work fine.

I dont belive the magnets will cause any problems.

After much deliberation, I have decided to go with a snap case from Vaja. I decided on the snap closure case not because of the magnet issue. In fact, after reading post after post on this site and others, I'm fairly convinced that the magnets used in the axim cases won't affect the axim or credit cards in a negative manner. The biggest reason why I went with with the snap closure case is if you look at the design, the snap closure piece wraps around the bottom of the axim, thereby covering the data port connector on the bottom of the axim. When I put my axim in my briefcase, or pocket or anything, I don't want dirt, grime, flint, etc. seeping into the little data connector on the bottom of the axim so i like the fact that it is covered by the snap closure cases. The magnetic closure cases on the other hand, leaves the bottom connector of the axim exposed to the "elements".

I must admit though, the somewhat cool thing about leaving the port exposed is that one can sync the axim without necessarily opening the cover............but then again I don't personally have the activesync running continuously when connected to the pc (i find activesync somewhat buggy compared to my old palm vx's system of syncing)................

Anyway, hope this helps others when considering what kind of case to get...............

Also after much deliberation, I went with the EB case. I never thought about the exposed port connector issue. I think you're right, it could eventually cause a problem.

After receiving the case, I think it's a risk I'm willing to take. I love how easy the magnetic closure is to use...and how quiet it is in meetings. Just like when I bought a case for my Visor, I think it's well worth the investment. This site and this thread were very helpful in making my decsion.

Magnetic closure on a case has ZERO effect on the PDA, PERIOD. I've had an iPAQ with a magnetic closure from VAJAcases.com with NO problems whatsoever.
