I seem to recall awhile back that some Canadians were trying to order the upgrade with little success. Do a search to see if you can find anything. (Sorry, I can't give you any links because I'm posting from my Axim.) You might also want to contact Dell.ca.
For a long time it wasn't listed on the Dell US site, you could only call in an order for it. Dell Canda might still be doing this, so call the ordering number and see if they'll sell it to you that way.

Having just done it, upgrading is a HASSLE and then some. Activesync 3.7.1 doesn't like to easily install in XP, you have to start the program then WHEN it crashes, go into the temp folder and restart it after a reboot and oh, yeah I couldn't get this to work until I did it in safe mode (forget it trying with a configuration involving antivirus or firewall running) Then, once installed, getting activesync to sync to work with outlook requires updating outlook to the included version (which keeps asking for LDAP passwords) and THEN if you can get activesync to stay connected you may try to start the upgrade on the handheld which leads to many resets and rebooting of both the desktop and handheld any one of which could leave the axim in OS limbo and unable to function. whew. I'm only now getting to the point where I can reconstruct the data lost during the process (saved most of it, but the recommended backup strategy left me with at least one unrecoverably corrupt file) and reinstall my apps.
In short, it can be done but is not painless so ask yourself if you really need the hassle of upgrading and if so, use google to read up on the activesync and OS upgrade problems people have had prior to the attempt.
I, in contrast, had zero problem with it on win2k or winxp and the latest ActiveSync. Everything ran exactly as outlined in the instructions and I have two up to date X5's to show for it. In fact, I now have Office 2k3 installed and no problems yet with my X5's.
Bad news to be late out of the gate. For my "antiquated" Axim X5, I can't seem to find a WM2003 upgrade CD available anywhere (certainly not from the clever Dell US folks, who seem to have shut off the valve); anyone with info on where one can now be purchased third-party?
It cannot be purchased from anywhere. Although sometimes it is offered on e-bay, chances are that the seller already used it for upgrading and then it's illegal for him to sell it (the license is nontransferable). There is a way to obtain it with a free download from the web, but this is probably illegal as well. Dell wants you to buy a new PPC instead of upgrading your old one.

It is no longer availible, period. The only way it might be legal is if you bought a copy that was purchased from Dell, and the seal has not been broken.
AS - Don't start up with this here, there was enough trouble on the Dell forums earlier this week . . .
