Just got my Dell, cable missing

Just got my Axim. Pretty kewl!

However, they failed to ship the power cord. The one that goes from the wall to the AC adapter box. I called and they will ship one in a week. Luckily I have an extra cable as the connector to the AC adapter is standard. However, a little disappointing.

Pretty quick delivery. Ordered 2/20 and received 2/25 and I am in Canada. I ordered with no accessories to ensure quick delivery. Another order going in shortly for keyboard and large battery.

Other good news is the Linksys CF12 will also be here today. My home office WiFi LAN is anxious for some Dell action!

Mad

dialdn,

I just got my Axim yesterday and the same thing happened to me!!!! Unfortunately, by the time I realized it, Customer Care was closed and I will have to call back. Hopefully, I can talk to someone today, but it's now the weekend, so I don't know.

By the way, have you received the AC adapter yet? And what exactly did you use in the meantime? I DON'T WANT TO WAIT A WEEK!!! (I too am in Canada..hmmm..is there a trend here?)

Weird!

I have not received the power cable yet but I do have the adapter (running from the Dell to the black box). The cable I used was from my scanner which also uses a power cable connected to an AC adapter. The same cable is also used on my laptop from the AC adapter to the wall. I also have a third one that was used for a gaming steering wheel. If you have some computer equipment around you may have one nearby. They are reasonable popular for peripherals.

Just make sure you use ONLY the Dell AC adapter and no other in its' place as it controls the voltage/current. The cable that goes from the adapter to the wall is simply a straight connection so it is safe to use another standard cable. However, don't tell Dell that. Make sure you complain as I did and they will forward it. I haven't seen mine yet but I expect it early next week.

BTW, the person I first spoke to said it was extra! She left the phone for about 10 minutes (I guess to get the proper story) and came back, apologized and forwarded it on it's way.

Hope that helps.

I have heard of this happening more and more lately. I know my dad didn't get some of his cables, but he just called his rep (luckily a friend of mine) and it was straightened out next day.

My dad lives in Austin, so that definitely helps.

dialdn,

Thanks for the tip. I dug around and found a couple of power cables from some laptops. I will try using either one of those. I see now why it would be safe to use those but NOT the actual AC adapter.

I'm sorry to hear that you still haven't received your cable. I called Customer Care this morning but unfortunately, they are closed until Monday morning!!! *sigh* Anyway, can you do me a favour and let me know when you actually do receive yours? And BTW, how are you liking your Axim so far?

Thanks,

Gigi

Thanks I will let you know.

I have been so happy with the Dell. A friend of mine got one and sold me on them. I work at home and will be a stay at home dad for the summer while working when I can. I plan to carry the Axim around the house to stay connected as well as manage my servers through the remote desktop features.

I am still working on a list of killer apps for the Dell.

I have recently installed ewallet which is great for managing my passwords and the like.
