Made a Case Decision

Well, after thinking about this long and hard, I went for the Sena case.

The Pocket Solutions cover-up seemed like a good idea at first, kinda like the Clie' flip covers...but then I thought about it, and, ehhhhh.
I really like the idea of the proporta case aluminum shell , but...no storage.

Reasons why I chose Sena:

No Magnet
Plenty of storage
Slim design (w/no belt clip)
Price
Forum suggestions

Why I didn't choose PocketSolutions cover-up:
Won't latch closed
Single hinge (stupid design flaw. Add one more hinge and they'll double sales!)
Bad reviews from the forum

Why not the proporta case?
Sorage only.
Otherwise, the all aluminum case looks really sweet. Seems like a solid, solid choice if you don't need room for memory or CF Wireless cards.

So, that's my short list of pros and cons. Hope it helps anyone else who may be wrestling with this decision.

What does the Proporta case look like? I keep seeing links to it but they dont even post a prototype pic or even a drawing! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I was waiting on the Innopocket but there is one problem with me. I have emailed them about 5 different times from different email addresses asking if there is work toward a case for the Axim and if so, if there is an expected release date. I have received ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE! GRRRRRRRRRR This makes me more apprehensive of buyin from them just for lack of customer communications. Not a way to run a biz IMHO.

That Sena is looking better and better and the leather is even starting to grow on me. Looks very EXEC In my opinion as well, they really put much thought in it. Not only the case WITH storage but a bag as well IF you were to travel and threw it in a suitcase. Only con I can think of is the are bordering the buttons but depending on the leather thickness there, it may be negligible.

Thanks for the heads up on the Sena case. I haven't seen it before myself.

Case for Axim

I settled on a small zippered leather case from the Universal Cases made by Franklin-Covey. They are listed on their website. It is slightly larger than the Axim and also holds business cards, etc. Small enough to slip into a coat pocket, too! Note: the "clip" attachment is very tight and so I went with Velcro. Sure enjoy my Axim! Just had it a week and so far so good.

The case for the Axim will look like the case for the IPAQ, just with different dimensions. Just look at the IPAQ case.

I emailed Innopocket about 10 days ago and got a positive response the next day. Several others on this site have indicated the same response as have several on Dell's community site. FYI, there is a post of today saying Innopocket will begin takin orders in early March. Me? I'm going to wait.

I have the ipaq case, but it came in "iConcepts" packaging. It is the same one that innopocket and proporta sell. I will bet my shorts that when they are released, the inoopocket and proporta cases will be identical. I will also bet that the design will look more like the e550g version shown on innopocket's site (cover will open to the right, not to the left like the ipaq).

(in case I am wrong, 1 pair of fotl shorts, slightly used, will be set next to my laundry basket, ready to ship)

btw, I have the e550g case too. the ax *almost* can be squeezed in, but not quite.

But I am sure that the hinge will be on the right side due to the jog, SD card, record button and reset.

Another thing is will the unit be be odly shaped due to the lower taper of the Axim or will it be square, typically of the PDAs I have seen with space on either side of the unit on the lower portion inside the case.

This is why I would like to see it. Also one thing I like is the rubber grips on the side. Wouldn't it be great if the case had them as well. Plus if it had rubber feet on the back. Aluminum can be pretty slick on a table/counter top. Does it set on a table open flat. I meanm having it open, does it cock one side up so then it rocks when placing a hand on the lid?

I'm whiny I know.

More bets:
-no rubber feet or sides
-will lie flat, because lid/cover will only open 180 to 200 degrees (won't fold flat to the back)
-I don't think it will taper much at the bottom, if at all (I hope I am wrong about this)
-definitely hinged on the right side (as I previously mentioned)

I dream about someone inventing a case with the removable upper closure. Sena case looks really nice (so is Vaja, etc.) but I can't imagine myself reading an ebook (which I do quite often) with that upper closure flapping around and getting on the way. Of course you can take the whole case off all the time but that's pain in the rear.

I liked the covers that old Palm Pilots had - kinda like TI calculators - you slide the cover off to expose the screen and you slide it back on on the the other side (to the back) so you can work with it without cover getting on the way or flapping around. If someone will design something like that for Axim I will be first in line.

gorby, thats a danm good idea. it looks to me that the sena case flap will go all the way back so you can essentially do the same thing. its leather so i'm guessing it will go all the way back. i'm going to ask sena about it, if it goes all the way back, i'm sold.

Yea, I would imagine that you can bend it all the way back and hold it that way. However, it will get uncomfortable after a short while. I had an iPaq before I got Axim and I had a Silver Slider 5 cover for it. I could also flip the plastic cover all the way to the back but it was still getting annoying and uncomfortable to hold. I would rather prefer a removable front cover.

Are there any cases that allow you to carry the Axim on a belt clip with a wireless CF card installed and the cover on the case closed?
