Sanyo 8100 Supplynet connection/IR connection

i have seen several postings about the Sanyo 8100 cable for the Axim 5 but havent really seen anything that says how well the connection works ecspecially to spend 80.00 for the cable..I also saw a mention of using the IR connection..can someone tell me how that works and if they know if it works for the Sanyo 8100..I use it to hook to my laptop and have been very happy with its performance but am new to the PDA game..Please help and thanks in advance..
