Backup battery charge fluctuates

Hi,

I've had my Axim about 3 weeks now. My backup battery often drops to about 70-80% over the course of a day's use. The next day its back to 100%.

Anyway, over the last couple of days its dropped to around 30-40% after 1-2 hours usage. (Yesterday, I'd only noticed because I kept getting annoying 'your backup battery needs changing' pop-ups.)

I'm wondering, is this normal behaviour? How long should I expect the backup battery to last?

Any expert advice appreciated.

Fluctuations in the backup battery reading are normal (between 70-100%).

However, if the backup battery drops below 50% there may be something else going on.

My backup battery would occasionally drop to 0% and I would get the annoying message. I finally came to the conclusion that my backup battery was not always maintaining a good contact in the battery compartment. To remedy the problem I simply took a very small piece of foam padding a inserted it under the backup battery compartment cover. This adds a small amount of downward pressure on the backup battery helping to insure that it maintains good contact. Seemed to do the trick for me as I haven't seen the annoying message since inserting the foam padding.

I agree, this has been happening on my Axim as well and I have had it since early December, without a problem. Not sure why, because I wouldn't think that the backup battery is rechargeable. It "looks" like a watch battery and should only be used when the main battery is being replaced (AFAIK).
