Tired of my Axim - Returning it today
The novelty of my Axim has worn off and I have decided to return it since I am still within the first 30 days from the invoice date. My Axim has sat on its cradle for the past 3-4 days unused; I haven’t even brought it to work with me.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the Axim is the best Pocket PC for the money that is available, I just don’t need it. I was even finding it hard to find the time to play with it. When I use it at work, I feel like I'm slacking and feel a little weird using it in public all together. I will say that the Axim has been very entertaining in the rare occurrences when I had downtime by myself.
Another worry is with spring rapidly approaching; I will soon be putting away the ole jacket that has the breast pocket that my Axim fit so perfectly in. I don’t think it will fit in my pants, and I am certainly not going out with a fanny pack!
I may, at some point, re-order the Axim when I actually have a use for it. As for now, it serves me no purpose.
I will say this ... I called Dell Customer Care, waited on hold for less than a minute and got authorization to return my Axim with no hassle at all. Maybe its just my luck, but my whole Dell experience could not have been better for me. From placing the order to returning, the service was outstanding.

I think it rules!
Perfect for playing games during class at college.. and organising your course work (cough) :)
And listening to music..
i mean think about it.. a decent mp3 player sets you back about 120 quid (and that probably wont have a Li Ion battery, and the axim plays oggs too) a gameboy advanced would cost about 80... thats already 200 quid! and then you would have to carry both around!!
Then all the other things the axim does so well.. i mean a fairly decent paper organiser costs 30 quid and thats no where near as good as a digital one..
and heres the icing on the cake...
(stand alone) portable divx players dont even exist yet, and probably wont!
I think its well worth it (i was actually thinking of buying all of those to fill the time at college .. then found the axim :)
btw: my college sucks.. absolutly no entertainment stuff... we usualy just sit around and play games on out pda's / phones now :)
Just my thoughts :)

I'd have to admit I got my Axim only because I wanted a PDA. But surprisingly I found it to be quite helpful. I've downloaded directions from Mapquest via Avantgo and not have to write it down. Took voice note of a couple of phone numbers as I was driving and couldn't write. Responded promptly to a few important emails while I was out and was able to hop on to a hot spot. I can also do a little bit of web browsing in the bedroom before bed time without having to place a hot laptop on my lap. Now that I think about it, the Axim is much more useful with the wireless CF card. Without it I'd probably return it too since $350 is not exactly pocket change.

On the contrary!
The novelty of my Axim is more than I can bare, and I have decided to keep it. My Axim has never sat on its cradle for longer than 45 minutes unused; It never leaves my side.
I need it! I was even finding it hard to do things necessary to survive. Laundry went updone for weeks, food was overated, the need for sleep never occured to me. When I use it at work, I feel like I am finally capable of slacking without prying eyes and I jubilantly use my Axim in public along with headphones and my Pocketop keyboard. I will say that the Axim has been very entertaining on every occurrence when I have downtime by myself and many times when I don't.
When spring arrives I will rejoice in my ability to listen to music on long walks and bikerides. I can carry my Axim in any pocket I choose. Or in a bag or a custom case.
I may, at some point, order a second Axim when they come out with the next model out of principal.
Never shall I give up my Axim, in the event that it shall ever break tech support will have to pry it from my cold dead hand.
I will say this ... I have also experienced Dell Customer Care, I waited on hold for less than a minute and had authorization to do whatever was needed to make me happy. Maybe its just my luck, but my whole Dell experience could not have been better. The service was outstanding.

pfx,
I was finding that problem with my Handspring Prisim. I figured that the reason for this was that I wasn't impressed with the Prisim's speed and quality of software.
Being a Windows person, I thought a "Windows" handheld would inspire me to use the thing again.
Anyway, if you don't want it, I'm sure that there are ton's of people waiting on theirs to ship, that would be willing to talk about buying yours off of you.
It's up to you. Personally, I can't wait to start using it. :)

The Axim is awesome and I'm sure you will love it. I would highly recommend it to anybody that is in the market for a PDA.
This kind of sounds hypocritical of me, but their is SO MUCH that you can do with it. I was so surprised at the amount of software available. I just got tired of it.
If I could use it to play games at work, I would probably keep it. But let’s just say that I work for a company that is very familiar with the Axim and knows that I have no other motive than slacking if they see it in my hand.

NO AXIM?
Sounds like you need a new job where "Big Brother" isn't over your back all the time. LOL. Just a joke, so I don't need a lecture about the productivity of our nation and workforce.

Buttuh...agree with your thoughts, and also about using AvantGo...however, I have tried to use MapQuest also...the whole directions thing, entering where I am and where I want to go and look for the info at my next sync but find nothing...any thoughts?

Hey Jlong,
I didn't know it was possible at first either. On the page (Mapquest) where it shows the directions, you'll see tabs on top of that page that says "Email this direction, print version, down load to your PDA". Click on the appropriate tab and it will ask whether or not you already have avantgo installed. If you do just go to the next step, give it a name, and it will ask you to log into your avantgo account. All you need to do is login and do nothing else after that. Once you go to sync your avantgo and open it up with your PDA, you'll see the direction as a separate channel with whatever name you picked earlier. It's quite simple once you get used to it. Good luck and let me know if you run into any problems. I am a newbie when it comes to avantgo but so far I have not had any problems.

Still can't figure it out Buttuh...on my PPC AvantGo page (the MapQuest one) , where it has the two options (maps, directions) that is all I have. Do I have to go to the AvantGo website to download something. In the past I ahve entered my info on the Axim and it says that at the next sync I will have my info...so far no go...

I have to say that I bought an Axim just to have one, I don't play games on it, but surprisingly enough I'm surprised how reliant I've become on it.
I have Money installed and when I'm out running around I will enter in all my purchases, then when I hot sinc my Axim, Money automaticly updates the balances on my computer, no need to sit down and try to remember were I spent my money.I check my calender and see what appointments or reminders I have.
I'm an avid racing fan and have all the schedules on hand to see what country day and time they will be in next.
I use avantgo to download my favorite news and entertainment news, plus my stocks and others.
I have my contact list to look for phone numbers buisness,Home addresses or web addresses.
I have a wireless CF card and router at home, I will check my e-mail and favorite websites from my living room or at Starbucks while having some coffee.
When you think about it, 350 before rebate for souch a feature rich PDA is a steal, if anything it shows you how overpriced the other models are.
