Mad WHY Cradle USB 2.0? dUH Dell

I don't know about you but file transfer and installing apps seems a little slow. Why didn't dell make USB Cradle at USB 2.0?

If you have a WIFI connection on the Axim, you can use Falgun's wireless activesync suggestion. WIFI can communicate at up to 11Mbps, instead of USB1.1's 1.5Mbps. :)

I WISH. Do you know if the Axim can support usb 2.0 latter? In other words is it software dependent or a hardware chip in the Axim? For example Dell will come out with 2.0 usb cradles latter.

The cradle works with USB 2.0 since USB 2.0 is backward compatible. BUT it doesn't speed anything up.

They should have made a firewire cradle.

The limitation is probably not the USB bandwidth...

For example... copying stuff to my CF card or AD card goes at about 10k/s And using a usb 1.1 reader, it's more like 800k/s... So if the axim is writing so slow to the memory cards, I don't see how a firewire or usb 2.0 connection would help...

Good point I always forget about the axim hardware limitations (its probably because of the bus speed of the current Xscales).

Probably because the vast majority of computers in use (especially in a business environment) do not have USB 2 or firewire. No point in overdesigning the thing when they are trying to keep costs down.

The problem I have found is not that the cradle is incapable of reaching these speeds....it is how ActiveSync deals with USB. Apparently, ActiveSync looks at the USB connection as just about the same as a serial connection, so the rates are ramped way down.

its not usb2.0 becasue the xscales build in usb controller isnt usb2.0.
Its not firewire for the same reason ;) (I wish it was firewire, but microsoft dont seem to like firewire that much)

Its slow becasue active sync sucks, not becasue of the xscales bus speed (which is 99.5Mhz, plenty fast for any flash)

And if you had a memory bus speed much faster then that, battery life would be rediculously short

active sync is (IIRC)
(microsofts file transfer system) over tcp/ip over ppp over serial over usb

Its really terrible.
