SD Card...Should I send it back??
I formatted my 256MB Scandisk SD card yesterday and a few times today. After the first format I transfered an MP3 to the "My Documents" folder on the SD card through A/S's Explore function and it transfered fine and played fine. I then deleted it because I just wanted to try it out. Today I try to transfer MP3's to the SD card and they will not go. Some go partially, and some don't go at all, but everytime I have tried today the transfer freezes and the "My Documents" folder on the laptop says "Not Responding" when I do CTRL+ALT+DEL. The popup box for ending the program comes up and I click "End Now". It closes the "My Documents" folder, and closes all other windows that are open, including A/sync. I think this might be a bad card. What makes me question that it might not be bad is that I transfered pictures and documents fine (All Small Files). But I cannot transfer mp3's (not even the smallest one I have at 2.5MB) and its starting to piss me off. Should I call Dell and just send it back?

When I copy mp3's to my sd card(128mb), I just usually
copy a group of songs by COPYING and PASTING them from my harddrive directly to a folder on my sd card.
Works better that way, give it a try

Thanks but I have tried that. So far small files have always transfered (excel, word, pics, etc) and I transfered one mp3 once(the first time I ever put anything on the card). Every time I try mp3s the my doc folder doesn't respond and the ax and my pc disconnect.

Don't use the my docs folder. Create a new folder on your SD card, call it mp3's. Go to your desktop and find the mp3's you want to copy. Highlight them all, then right click the mouse and choose COPY.
Then go to your MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop and click it.
Your axim should be listed as one of the drives. Click the axim icon, then find your SD card, then look for that folder named mp3's. PASTE them there.
The mp3's should copy over nicely.
SORRY if I was very specific, I just wanted to make sure that we were on the same page dude!

Slap me silly but I didn't know you had to format the SD or CF cards, I just did the drag and drop on the desktop and then sync with the device. Are you suppose to format?:rolling:

maybe the difference with mine is I got the Cruzer and used the Cruzer to transfer files instead of activesync. I've had zero problems so far *knocks on wood*

I returned my Sandisk 256MB SD card to Dell. I purchased a Lexar 256MB SD card and have had no problems at all with it. The Sandisk was a nightmare. Dell should be embarrassed.

possably off topic but .. MEMORY?
Finally got my AXIM running - Active Sync working and tranferring files fine .
One thing you soon learn that a memory upgrade is pretty essential purchase.
However I have waded through documentation - websites and newsgroups looking for the answer to what may seem like an easy question.
First stating the obvious - MORE is better so I guess that 512mb or 256mb is the target to aim for but can you guys tell me - What are the merits - disadvantages of the two kinds of memory slots - even WHY provide two?
Should I buy memory for the CompactFlash card slot - or Secure Digital slot.
I guess if I use SD card - i loose the use of the memory I already own so hey - almost like grown up computers lol
And while we are on the subject Where are the best Deals?
(dont forget us UK folk when reccomending).
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions ;

I thought SanDisk must be a better manufacturer than Lexar. Am I wrong ?

I've used SanDisk and Lexar with my MP3 players and Camera for many years. I stayed away from SanDisk with my Palm because people were saying they they where having issues with them (different than those we are having now). Before these problems with the Axim, I'd put SanDisk and Lexar on the same level, below Viking and Kingston.

Re: possably off topic but .. MEMORY?
My card will be back on its way to Dell monday. I'm just gonna buy one from around here, so if I have problems I can return much faster and easier.

DavidDB I don't know everything about the two forms of media, but I'll tell you as much as I can. With secure digital you can protect your data from being overwritten by accident and it takes up less space than a CF card. Also if you use a SD card for storage it leaves your CF slot open for things like GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, etc. CF cards are a bit cheaper than SD cards for now, and you can get one with at least 1GB of storage. The highest SD card I've seen is 512MB and those are pretty expensive, but prices are coming down for both types of media. And what did you mean by-- "I guess if I use SD card i loose the use of the memory I already own"-- As far as I know you can use both types in the axim at the same time. I haven't looked recently at where the best deals are, so I can't help you there.

Gateway has some decent prices. (Suprised me! -- I found it on another thread.) I bought a 256 M Lexar for $80 including shipping. Only bad thing is, they are saying 2 weeks for delivery. (I'm cheap on shipping options.) A lot of people say the Lexar works well. We'll see. I tried looking around locally, and the selection is pretty bad in the stores. That also surprised me, considering I live in Baltimore.
