Dell Screen Protectors?

Okay, when i first got teh screen protectors i just took the little strip of film off the back.. and put it on.. had no problems with it like that, it was just a bit darker...
Now, it got really dirty and scratched, so i thought.. time for a new one... i looked at this site and saw that howto for the protetors
so i removed the film from the back, and aplied hte protector.. now i get dodgey little circles on the screen, i've tried 3 different protectors now, removing the film , all produce same result.
I even applied the last one waering gloves to make sure it wasn't moisture from my hands... and i have not been breathing anywhere near the protectors/screen....
whats happening?

(i have been cleaning my screen with a microfibre clouth everytime i tried a new protector)
i'm just getting a bit anoed becasue i'm wasting protectors becasue dell didnt provide anyh instructions ;( Maybe if i complain i an get some more...

Anyway, is it normal to see the circle pattern, or is it just me being stupid?

;(

I'll just keep the backing film on.. seems to work fine like that.. just a bit darker.

Fellowes Protectors work

I bought the Fellowes WriteRight Micro-Thin Screen Protectors (the official name) for the Compaq iPAQ... which seemed to have the general screen size as the Axim. The protectors work great. there is a faint darkening of the screen, but all in all I've had little difficulties (and no problem with replacing them).

For reference, the model number (of the sheet pack) is 98048.

I use the Dell protectors, and after an hour of trying and reading I find myself out that you shpuldn't "press" them on the screen.
First I used a visa card to put it on, and everytime there were ugly bubbles.
Now I only put them on without pressing much and it works fine!
If after some days there are bubbles, just lift an edge of the protector a little and they'll go away.
Hope that helps.

But I wonder if the protectors are useful, on my old iPAQ 3630 I never used them and the screen was still fine after 2 years!

I *like* the dell screen protectors. I took the plastic off, popped it in with the corner tab thingies facing up, and they're wonderful.

Worried Fellowes WriteRight

I bought the Fellowes WriteRight for the Sony Clie/Peg-N610C/Peg-n710C and as for size it appears to be a perfect fit. But it is a pain to put on the screen. They supply a small cardboard smoother to push out the air bubbles but so far it is a pain to work with. It darkes the screen just a little but not enough to be a bother. But them little bubbles grrrrr.

I used the WriteRights when I had my Casio EM-500. If you leave the protector on, eventually the bubbles will disappear.

Go to link below. Jay came up with Axim templates to make your own screen protectors. I bought CLEAR transparency sheets and was careful not to smudge or scratch them when putting them in my printer. I then cut them out. You can print 6 to a sheet. They work beautifully.

What plastic?

I just got some Dell Screen Protectors and they have this film strip about 3 mm wide across the middle on the back side. Other than that they do not appear to have any peelable plastic. Is that what you are talking about?

I ask this because I notice someone else saying that they get bubbles with the Dell protectors. I was not aware that they werer stick on ... are they? No flippin' instructions!

They seem to be just mylar sheets with upturned corners and wide tabs at the top and bottom edges for inserting under the borders of the screen.

BTW, the best way to clean the screen I have found is to use my car's damp chamois leather. Works perfectly.

my dell screen protectors don't stick on either, they just kind of sit there; they don't even leave an opportunity for bubbles. Are there 2 different kinds of dell ones?

Since asking my question above I managed to figue that there is a very thin peelable plastic on the back (other face from the upturned edges). Makes a big difference. Still no sticking to the screen though. Just fits better and is clearer/less opaque.

I am waiting on my Brando protector -- back ordered at executivepda.com, but scheduled to arrive there and be shipped to me on Monday. :)

Aha! Thanks Wayne. Nonetheless, I'm still not too impressed with these Dell ones!
