Well, here's what happened. I decided to buy an Axim (my first PDA), but didn't want to wait for the long ship times from the Dell website, so I went to eBay. I found a nice Axim package (400 Mhz version + 128 Mb CF Card) from a user with more than 30 positive feedbacks and made the purchase. I received an e-mail stating that my Axim would be shipped the next day (so far, so good). I sent a reply asking for the shipment method and a tracking number. I waited a few days and received no Axim and no response to my first e-mail, so I sent another e-mail asking for an update - no response. About ten days and many e-mails later, I still hadn't received the Axim or any replies to my e-mails, so i requested the sellers phone number and gave her a call. To my surprise, she claimed to have no knowledge of my transaction and said that she only buys on eBay - never sells. She said someone else had phoned her about an eBay transaction and she suspected her account had been hijacked. I tend to believe her story and feel that someone was using her account for malicious purposes (a closer look at her eBay report card showed that she only bought fabric items, never electronics).
Anyway, I have notified the fraud people at eBay and at my credit card. Visa claims 100% fraud protection for on-line purchases, so I guess I'll get to see how they do. It'll probably take months to straighten out, but I'm relatively confident that everything will work out. I haven't bought much on eBay, but I doubt if I will every buy anything there again. The eBay feedback system is worthless if others can hijack the accounts with good records.
It's not the end of the world, but this experience has caused me to lose interest in getting an Axim in the near future. I was very excited after reading the posts here and had even started downloading PocketPC stuff. I'll keep reading this site and maybe it'll rekindle my interest.
Thanks all for letting me vent and have a happy near year.

Don't let eBay ruin your interest in the Axim. It's well worth the wait...believe me. I'm sure everyone on here will also tell you that it is worth it. Go ahead and order it from Dell, the ship times seem to be getting MUCH faster than they were a month ago. Plus the holidays are over so there won't be anymore delays due to that. Get one...you'll be happy you did. (Man I sound like I work for Dell or something!)
Just an FYI Deloso - I ordered my Axim on Jan 1st and they gave me an estimated shipping date of Jan 21st (ordered the leather case upgrade). I just checked the Dell website and it shows that my order shipped today. That's a 2 day turnaround!
Yeah Dell has been shipping pretty fast from what I've seen, I'd give it another try from the source if I were you.

This is why I love having an American Express. The one time my card was used without my permission (earthlink signed me up for their $30 a month internet service), I called American Express as soon as I found out. They automatically credited my card for the amount, canceled my card, and sent me a new one. If Visa has this kind of service, it shouldn't take that long to work everything out.

Here's the bottom line, Dell sells direct, if you want a new Dell computer or PDA, go straight to them. They are not like HP or Compaq (whatever they call themselves this week) where you can mail order from catalogs. If you want a Dell you always go to the source. If you want used, they even sell refurbished item. I'm sorry to hear about what happened, but working with Dell at work with Ordering Servers, Desktops, Laptops, and my Axim, I have never had a problem. And buying from them means you never have to worry about the device (warranty), they have you on file and registered to your Service Tag and Express Service Code. Just a word of advice for the future.
I have to agreed with what everyone has said so far. I got my Axim much much sooner than what Dell stated . Also I would have to be suspicious of people on eBay who claim to be selling something that is a hot seller, just how would they have gotten it.
Try the source, most likely you'll have it alot sooner than you think. Then you can have some fun.
Thanks all for the advice. I placed an order for an Axim (from Dell!) earlier today, so hopefully I won't have to wait too long. The only thing that bugs me is that the $35 coupon code I entered was not subtracted from the total in the order confirmation e-mail (I'm pretty sure it was subtracted from the total when I placed the order). I tried to phone the sales department, but there's a 90 minute wait and I wasn't even sure I was calling the right place. I used the coupon instead of taking their free shipment offer :( .

That is the major complaint I have about Dell right now. Their customer service SUCKS! I was not upset that my first Axim was one with a faulty D-Pad. I started getting upset when it took me almost an hour on the phone (45 mins of which I was on hold waiting to speak to someone) before I was able to make arrangements to get a replacement. I was supposed to receive it within 2-3 days and it took a week. Heck, I got the invoice for the replacement maybe 2 days after it arrived. Too bad they can't ship product as fast as they can bill it out.
I have called 3 times trying to order the 3400 battery. Once I told it was not available for purchase separately from the Axim. The next time I called my call got routed to an extension that was no longer in service. The third time I called I was told that the battery was backordered for an unknown amount of time. This after being on hold and wading thru automated menus.
I have to say that I am really enjoying my Axim, but I sure hope I never have to contact Dell :(
What are you refering to the "D" Pad? I hadn't heard of that issue. Knida shocked about your run around with Dell. I had to call them the othe night to ask them a question (Tech Support), I was on the phone for about 30 Minutes before I got someone. If you consider how many of these things they are selling and how many people are getting these for the first time.... It is like learning a new OS if you really want to push the device to its potential. I know you shouldn't have to think about it, but there are alot of newbie's to the PPC world and even more that are new to the PDA world, they may be the ones calling in asking to have their hands held and in doing so tying up support people..... Just a thought from some who runs a Network with 300 users... (That doesn't mean Dell shouldn't respond with more Support Staff....)
