What exactly are you trying to install? MSN messenger? If you have PPC2002 or WM2003 (not SE), you need to install the update. With SE, you don't need to do anything since the most recent version is already part of the ROM.

When you are installing, are you connected using ActiveSync? Did you make sure you downloaded the correct version? For help with installing software in general, see the tutorial (link in my signature).

indeed

i am trying to update msn messenger. When i got the axim and i tried to connect - msn said it was a outdated version. So i went to the msn messenger for pocket pc and downloaded the pocket pc 2003 version. It started to install and then said cannot work with this device. I am sure i have pocket pc 2003. In about it says my version of os is 3.0.11171. so i assume this is pocket pc 2003. I did use active sync - dont have any probs with active sync - active sync version 3.7.1

Did you get the update here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/msnmessenger/pocketpc.mspx

Did you install to main memory?

Also, uninstall what you have already attempted to install before trying again.

Looks like a hard reset to me to be able to clean the previous installation and start all over again. Sorry but on PC it is the same if MSN install failed it won't pickup again. you need a clean install.

When you try to uninstall, try to run the .exe file from the PC again and instead of picking "Reinstall" or "Repair", choose "Uninstall."

You have PPC2002. With WM2003, the OS version number starts with 4. Yours starts with 3, so it's PPC2002.
