I am a former Axim user. I switched to a HP 1910. (short story is: The Ax was too big for me to keep with me all day). I was having problems with my Axim and entering data into it using block recognizer. After switching to the 1910 - I noticed the block recognizer is just as horrible. It appears that microsoft can't get the block recognizer to work well. I assumed with all the oodles of processing power that these PPC's had compared to a palm, it would be at least as good. I used my Palm V for over 3 years and entered most of my data onsite. I have to use scrap paper or take a note on the PPC and enter the data later.
Anyone else who uses block recognizer have the same issues I do? I would imagine ex-palm users who actually entered data away from their PC's would be inclined to use block recognizer.
And, if you've never used a Palms Graffiti - it is the exact same as using block recognizer. I could enter data as fast in my palm as using pen and paper.
You bet the block recognizer stinks. The ppc leaves alot to be desired. Right now, the biggest problem I have is trying to get a 'd' to work. 'y' are frustrating also. The palm was much more forgiving with how letters had to be entered. I usally resort to the keyboard, but that is way slow.
the block recognizer was actually better in PPC2K, you could reverse the fields. and it was much more reliable.
Letter recognizer is a bit better, but forces you to now use lower case letters. In PPC2K you could specify upper case strokes and it worked almost just like graffiti with the graspeedy hack. I'm sure this was done to avoid being part of the Palm/Xerox lawsuit.
I am along time user of Palm OS, and just
gota dell axim, I have no problems what so
ever with the bock recognizer, and notice a
definate increase in my accuracy... how ever... i do prefer
the keyboard....

(my first use I noticed the increase, but that
has been a while ago... December) .. Anyway
I just wrote the entire alphabet and had no
problems what so ever.. i even tried
writing a bad D and it still recognized it....

I use the letter recognizer, and that works fine for me, I can get pretty good speed with that, however, I generally input data with foldable keybard myself... really, all the M$ programs on PPCs suck right now, I tihnk they are holding out on making them good until the .NET switch myself...
I'm having the same luck as silentknight myself. I was a Palm user for 2 years, before switching to the Axim. I did not have the slightest problem with switching to the PPC, and also seemed to notice an improvement in character recognition. I make very few mistakes, and when I do they are usually my own fault. It's really not that much slower anymore than scratching notes on a pad of paper. Like silentknight, I did the entire alphabet real quick, and even with a few sloppy letters the Axim still picked them up perfectly. Have any of you with problems tried to recalibrate the screen? If you are not DEAD ON the center of the crosshairs, it will cause many of the problems that you are describing with the character recognition.
Have you tried to make a D lately? Get some funny AE symbol.
hahahaha...that's great! I've noticed the same thing!! I was a long time Palm user and was really used to using graffiti. But after I switched to PPC, I noticed some funky looking letters when I was using the Block recognizer. So I switched to the Letter Recognizer---I felt it was a little easier even though I was used to the Block/Palm way. Anyway, Palm's dropping that input method, so I don't see any more use for it.
The only problem I seem to be having with it is the screen seems too sensitive when I tap to start writing a letter. It will do a double tap with me too often and when I try to do an erase I have to do the back stroke several times.(Insert your own jokes here. ;) )
