This is curious,
After receiving my Axim last night. I installed the software and MS Outlook(I was running Outlook Express 5). The Axim is great, stayed up way past my bedtime.
This morning I've run into a problem with my desktop cpu. When I launch
MS Word or Excel the program runs and when I open a file, it shows it for a few seconds and then the program shuts down.
Everything was running fine until I installed the programs I mentioned.
Could this be related?

MTW,
What version of Office did you already have installed? I'm a bit curious to why you had to install Outlook, generally the Office Installation installs Outlook, either if you purchased the software for you PC or it came bundled with your PC when it was purchased. Office is very touchy when you install things it already has.
Also, check your "Startup" folder and see if there is some sort of Office script in there. If it is, move it out of the folder and reboot and see if it still does it with it out of that folder.

I have Office 2000 installed. I only installed Word and Excel. I didn't install Outlook because I prefered Outlook Express.
Which startup folder are you refering to? I found more then one.
in Apps Dats
All Users\Start\Programs
Prog Files\Microsoft Office\Office

Depends on how your user in Windows is setup:
I log into my Laptop as Administrator, so I would see a Startup folder in:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Also there is the All users folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
And Default user:
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Check them all.

I found some files in Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Office with pip, Acl and Inf extensions.
I'm ready to just restore my c:drive, Uninstal Office 2000 and start from scratch. I wouldn't normaly be this anxious about Office files, but my son has put off a geneology project thats due on Monday and I need to modify some set lists to send out for use tonight as much as I hate to remove the Axim from my system access to my data is way more important at this time.
Thanks for you help.
Mike

I had that problem w/ Excel 97 on my W98 box, and had to repair the excel install every time I needed to use it. On the install disk, there's even a button to do this w/o uninstalling anything first. I could then use excel all day, but if I shut down the PC, I'd have to repair excel again.
I used it like that for about a year.

hi there. you might want to check knowledge base articles Q236592, Q224432, Q255503 at MS Knowledge Base
;kbhowto]http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=fh;[ln];kbhowto
If you have a more specific error message, let me know and i can try to come up w. a solution. It might have something to do with the Outlook installation.

Thank you all for your quick responses.
Notice "you" and "all" are seperate words (I'm a northerner :D )
All fixed, I did a quick restore of C: Word and Excel worked. I then installed Outlook from my original Office 2000 cd and checked and Word and Excel were still working. Rebooted and installed ActiveSync and everything is working fine.
AGAIN! What a great group, quick responses and no put downs!
Thanks
Mike

I had the exact same problem as you ;) . But I orignally thought it was a virus that infeted all of my Microsoft programs. Now that I think of it it might of been the double install of Outlook that did it.
Anyhow it took a clean install to fix it.

Mike, from a Southern Gentleman, here is the lexicon you need:
Y'all - single, as in "Mike, how y'all doin'?"
All y'all - plural, as in "Guys, how are all y'all doin'?"
Y'all's - singular possessive as in "Mike's how's y'all's Axim doin'?"
All Y'all's - plural possessive as in "Hey guys, how's all y'all's Axims doin'?"
Simple, see? :D
