I learned the hard way. (or maybe not)
This is terrifying !!! I had about 70 notes or so with all kinds of information. They were all in my note folder. Since you can only go an extra folder deep in the note program, I thought I was clever and created a "writting" folder under "my documents. I had so many notes that I needed more folder depth to organize them and find them quickly. In this "writting" folder, I created a bunch of folder with more folders etc... This was working very very well and I was very satisfied, I even assigned the fourth button to the file explorer to find my notes quickly as I couldn't access them through the note program. All this was awesome until my Axim crashed and I had to do a hard reset. He he he... :( I lost all my notes !!! I have no clue where they are :(
I looked all over outlook, all over my computer, I looked through .pst file trying to find them, no luck. Does anyone know if I really lost them or if they where just moved somewhere else.
thank you

Kitos,
When you perform a hard reset, or remove both batteries, everything in RAM (Storage Memory and Program Memory) is lost. A hard reset should not affect anything stored in Built-In Storage or on either CF or SD cards.
Do you sync "Files"? If not, you most likely lost everything. However, if you sync Files then a copy of your notes might be in the folder on your PC that stores the synced Files.
Don't remember the exact path to where this folder resides on your PC (although I think there is usually a shortcut on your desktop to this folder), but am sure someone else out there knows.

Since you saved it in the my documents folder on your axim, it should have synced it to the my documents on your pc. Try looking in your my document folder in windows for 'my pocket documents' (I think thats what its called). As long as you didn't turn off synch my documents folder, it should have been saved.

Do a file search on your pc for " *.pwi ", this is the note extension. If they are on your pc this will find them. If you had the notes box checked on activesync then they should also be in outlook, under notes. If you want to be 100% sure they are backed up copy your axim note file to a safe place on your pc and a disc.

Just another thought. Another way to keep this file intact after a hard reset is to make a copy in the Built-in Storage (or mem card) area of your axim. This will survive a hard reset. If you did this once a day it would at least min. your data loss. Since you are using subfolders I don't think outlook will sync your notes, but if you had a sync file setup they will be in there.

THANKS !!!
You guys (girls) are awesome !!! I found a bunch of them that I had backed up a while ago running a search for *.pwi, that was a fantastic idea !!! Thanks a lot.
I have a quick question, what did you mean by :"Since you are using subfolders I don't think outlook will sync your notes, .
but if you had a sync file setup they will be in there . I sync files but I don't beleive active sync syncs notes as files ( I was thinking about transfering all my notes to .doc files which would be synced under multiple folders, but it doesn't seem like that good of an idea :) In any case, I surely will back up my info regularly now as I did it about once every couple month prior to this incident. I really appreciate everyone's help which was offered so quickly :) Thanks again.

Kitos,
I don't sync Notes but I do sync Files. My experience has been that anything saved under My Documents on my Axim will be synced to my Device_Name My Documents folder on my PC. This includes all subfolders created under the My Documents folder on my Axim and any files in these subfolders (including Notes - files with .pwi extension). Basically, ActiveSync creates a "mirror" of the My Documents folder.

If you check notes on the activesync menu they will sync with outlook everytime you sync with the axim. However since your using subfolders( instead of placing all notes in my documents) activesync can't find them.(as I recall?). In any case you don't seem to care about outlook having the notes, so the organization you would sac. is not worth it. Good luck and backup.
