I can not delete certain files from X5

I put a few files on my X5 w/ PC 2002 OS - a mp3 and a jpg. One of them is on a CF card and the other is on the internal flash. When I try to delete them I get an error that say

"Can not delete <filename>. Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use"

1. I know the disk is not full (and why would that matter)
2. Write-protected...how do I tell?
3. The file is not in use.

Any suggestions.

Okay, there are two ways to do this. On your axim, close out all programs and try to change the file's name. This is just a test to see if the system is really using it. If you get an error, its being accessed somehow. You may need to delete the file using a laptop. You ca format the card (not recommeneded). You can also soft reset your PDA into submission (not fun). If you're using regular file explorer, go to Resco's website and DL their trial version of their explorer. It may be able to do it.

Do a SOFT reset on your Axim - then try to delete the files...

Thanks

That worked. It stinks that I have to do that everytime I want to delete a file. I also put on the fresco file explorer. It gives me the same problem. Is this a known bug?

What may have happened is that the app that opened the files wasn't closed. Remember, the X in the upper right corner doesn't close the app, it only pushes it into the background. As a result, any file the app has open is held open. You cannot delete open files. A soft reset closes all apps and releases the lock on the open files. It's not a bug, it's how it operates. Get an app to close things fully (SwitcherBar, IcBar, WisBar, etc) and use it to close the app and the problem will be eliminated. You can also go to Settings/memory/Running programs and kill the apps from there.
