Tasks categories, Contact categories

Is there any way of separating the category lists for Contacts and Tasks? I don't want the same categories appearing in both, and I can't imagine anyone else does either. After all, Contacts Categories will be things like 'friends', 'family', 'work colleagues', etc, but tasks are things like 'DIY', 'Job-related', 'personal' et al.

I agree that the types and names of categories are different, but when I am in contacts it only shows me those categories where a contact exists, same for tasks etc.

Can I just ask why you would need them separated? I may have missed something obvious but I can't work out a reason

BTW - If you are talking about the list where you choose a category to be assigned I don't think that you can - but as you can probably guess - I have never tried.

It's when assigning categories to new additions. I have a huge number of categories for Contacts, but only three for Tasks, and I'm sick of getting a list that's longer than the menu when I want to assign one of *three* possible Task categories...

Okay, I see where you are going.

One suggestion preface your task categories such as 1_Work and 1_Personal - that way they will be at the head of the list.

If you do this - you do not have to change each of your exisiting tasks individually. You can view your existing tasks by category in Outlook, highlight all and right click, choose categories and select the new category for the whole group.

Hope this helps.

Is there a way to sync up with my public contact list and task list on the exchange server. I am currently only able to sync with items in my own personal contact list and tasks. There must be a way to also sync with exchange?

Thanks

I don't know - but I would be interested - at the moment I duplicate those that I require in my personal contacts.

But thinking about it how would you decide which contacts to add - the company I work for has over 160,000 employees on our exchange server list - that could take a bit of time to open on a ppc

Basically I would be looking for a public contact group that is for viewing only and the same for Calanders this way they can have their own list plus a list that is maintained by what ever department owns that specific public contact list i.e. a vendor list
